What Are The Coolest Modular Synth Plugins That Exist?

Post by Shortstop »

Just curious if anyone else is into modular synth plugins on Linux.

Was debating making an entire album around modulars with drums that synced in tempo, but wanted to know what everyone else was using.

Hope ya'll are doing well :)

VCV Rack by a long way. Not sure though if you need it to be a plugin (VCV Rack will be a plugin when the new version is released but the timeframe for that is unclear).

There is this https://github.com/bsp2/VeeSeeVSTRack. However, it works on Rack pre v1 so not ideal but better than nothing.

Not a plugin, but Bitwig has The Grid which strikes a really nice balance of having a ton of possibilities while also being quick and fun to work with.

Paid classic Modulars: https://tal-software.com/products/tal-mod https://u-he.com/products/bazille/ https://u-he.com/products/ace/

Standalone, free but not opensource https://warmplace.ru/soft/sunvox/
Standalone opensource http://www.bespokesynth.com/ it just waiting for as-plugin implementation, then it will wipe others, even Bitwig Grid. Pin that tweet

And Carla-patchbay, you can put inside LV2, LADSPA, VST(3), SFZ/SF2 or internal modules as blocks.

Computer Music Magazine has two fine modular synths, that both work well
in linux, after installing via wine, and being wrapped for native linux by linvst or yabridge.
Fathom is from Seaweed Audio, and BazilleCM is from U-he. Once registered, U-he support
should have the native linux version of BazilleCM, and they're a friendly bunch.
Fathom is a great and powerful synth, and comes with a ton of sounds, and can use lot's of cpu at times.

Online mag versions are under $5.00, and have a repository called The Vault,
where you can register your purchases, and download the content.
Or a large bookstore might carry the paper-with-dvd editions.

VeeSeeVSTRack is the chosen instrument for the latest 'One-synth-challenge' contest
read the details at the bottom link. The backlog of entries in the previous 148 challenges
is a good resource to hear real-world usage of a huge number of plugins, almost
all of them freeware of some sort. Downloads of the previous contests entries are at
