Chowdsp

Post by sjzstudio »

Hi,

I have AvLinux MXE, the latest version and Harrison Mixbus 32C the latest version. However, when I try to put the chow dsp plugin on the track, it fails. The Mixbus log indicates an error. 2021-06-12T19: 44: 38 [ERROR]: LV2: Failed to instantiate plugin https://github.com/jatinchowdhury18/AnalogTapeModel

Only one their plugin works both LV2 and Vst3, ChowCentaur.

I downloaded and installed them from their site as a deb package. https://chowdsp.com/

What is the reason for this?

Best Regards
Mika

Hi,

In looking into this it appears that the developer is building his Debian packages with and for Ubuntu and that there are some differences between the dependencies for Ubuntu and Debian. I am trying to build some AVL-MXE (Debian 10) versions to test but I'm running into issues compiling the TapeModel plugin, I have been able to build Centaur successfully but will have to try TapeModel again or file a bug report.

*EDIT

I have opened a bug report here: https://github.com/jatinchowdhury18/Ana ... issues/202

We'll see what the developer has to say

@GMaq , how do you build it in Debian 10 ? I've tried in OBS and it said that cmake is old:

Code: Select all

[  190s] CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:1 (cmake_minimum_required):
[ 190s] CMake 3.15 or higher is required. You are running version 3.13.4

Hi Kott!

Because I'm using MX+ Debian as a base now I have a newer version of CMake than in pure Debian Buster, in addition Centaur compiles fine with the version of CMake I have installed so I think the CMake version is not the issue here

Code: Select all

$ cmake --version
cmake version 3.16.3

Ok, I see (almost).

I found that it's possible to add Backports repo in OBS for Debian. Lets try again.
I'd like to ask what do you think if I have a success with that and then you can use JUCE plugins (Chow and BespokeSynth) from my OBS repo in AVL? We can make copy of my packages in separate home::AVL for example.

That would be wonderful! That is a very kind offer!

@sjzstudio

Here are the ChowDSP plugins in VST3 format for you to test. LV2 builds are broken on Debian10/AVL-MXE right now but VST3 builds are working here in my tests so try these and tell me if they work for you..

1. Remove all the ChowDSP Debian packages you have installed from the ChowDSP website with Synaptic..

2. If it doesn't already exist then make a folder in your home folder named '.vst3' please note that this folder will only be visible if you have show hidden folders enabled (Ctrl+H)

3. Download and extract this zip file with the VST3 Plugins to the new '.vst3' folder you created:
http://bandshed.net/files/ChowDSP.zip

4. Open Mixbus 32C and clear the VST3 blacklist and cache and re-run the VST Plugin scan..

5. Please report here if they work or if you have issues..

If all is well then I will roll the ChowDSP stuff into my 'avl-mxe-extra-plugins' package. LV2 builds should return in future AVL-MXE versions based on Debian 11 Bullseye, in the meantime all of the major hosts support VST3 anyway..

@GMaq

I've build Debian 10 package with Standalone and VST3 (w/o LV2) and full featured for Testing.
You can grab it here: https://software.opensuse.org/download/ ... t%3Adebian

I've test it in VBoxed AVL and VST3 loads in Carla fine, while Standalone hanged VM completely :)

Thanks very much Kott! Don't worry about standalones for me anyway, I avoid them like the plague!

You're welcome! Let me know if it works. I've also pushed ChowMatrix in the same repo.
