Rakarrack: Anything else like it?

Post by arpegadream »

Other than what is in DAW's, are there any stand alone Effects programs that will work in Debian Fork OSs (I use Mint).

I love Rakarrack but worry that it is no longer supported (?) or will stop working one day...

As far as DAW plugins, using Adour, what plug ins would I want to try for the same purpose?

As an all-in-one program, Guitarix is certainly an alternative to rakarrack. Or Kapitonov-Plugins-Pack if you need a more realistic sound.

There are many fans of rakarrack and I don't think it will ever die - someone will always maintain it. There is a modern fork of it, rakarrack-plus: you can show you support to the developer so that they don't abandon it.

@Basslint
Thanks for mention KPP plugins.
I downloaded the binary package KPP-1.2.1-binary-ubuntu-bionic and checked the LV2 versions.
So far, so great!

The Surge team has made a standalone FX version of the surge synth that worth a look.

VCV Rack has great potential as a guitar fx processor. Many of the Surge effects are available there, ditto for the Airwindows and Chowdhury stuff. Plus there are a lot of very interesting modules that aren't guitar-specific but can create some very unusual effects (I'm thinking particularly about the Mutable Instruments clones such as Elements, Rings, and Clouds). Of course, VCV Rack is a modular system, meaning you have to wire stuff together yourself, but if you can already that with fx pedals the system won't seem so strange or challenging.

Best regards,

dp

Experimenting a little with the KPP plugins.
I like the Octaver and the TubeAmp plugin especially.
