Soften Attack Effect
I'm looking for an effect plugin to soften attack. I imagine it working kind of like a compressor, except that the gain adjustment would be based on the amplitude from some previous fraction of a second. The idea is that if the track goes from very soft to a sudden burst of sound, the plugin would soften the beginning of the sound and then allow it to ramp up over a short period of time.

Maybe FirComp. It has "optional lookahead smoothing" - https://jonvaudio.com/fircomp/
It works nicely as a normal compressor but has several interesting unique features.

Re: Soften Attack Effect
With a bit of signal routing you could do it with a delay plugin and a sidechain compressor. Duplicate your track, put a short delay on the track you want to soften, and follow that with a compressor that had a sidechain from the duplicate track that is not delayed. You'd have to fiddle with the threshold and time delay to get the effect you want. I'm not sure if that's exactly how a lookahead function works.
It may be easier to find an existing plugin that has the function you need.

If everything else fails you can still use volume automation in your DAW.Michael Willis wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 9:32 pm I'm looking for an effect plugin to soften attack. JS plugins in Reaper:
Saike's "Transience":
https://github.com/JoepVanlier/JSFX/tree/master/Basics (requires "saike_upsamplers.jsfx-inc" in the same folder). It's also in ReaPack.
Witti's "transient_shaper_A01" and "transient_shaper_B01":
https://stash.reaper.fm/v/25168/js_plugins.zip (They're in this pack along with some other really good plugins.)
