Yosh/Zyn - What's the name of the related parameter to edit?

Post by TAERSH »

Hi.

I'm almost clueless when it comes to modify sounds from synthesizers like Yoshimi or ZynAddSubFx. Sometimes I'm doing something good by accident, but never being able to reproduce or to define exactly what I had done. Now I'm in trouble, as I need to reproduce something on different sounds.

E.g.: I have a preferred Bass sound in Yoshimi/ZynAddSubFx, though there's one huge issue. It plays a note as long as I press a key on the MIDI-keyboard. But I want to have it fading out as long as I'm pressing a key, just like a real Bass would do over some time. On another sound I want to do somehow the revert. I want it to play very much longer when pressing a key - so, fading out much longer/slower.

So, in Yoshimi/ZynAddSubFx what's the name of the parameter that I would need to modify?

I know most names of parameters simply and only from reading on a GUI etc. but don't know for real what they are exactly stand for.

Thanks in advance...

It is about ADSR envelope, Attach-Decay-Sustain-Release. To get sound fading away, you need to adjust Decay time to longer (higher value), in zyn D.DT in global enevelope. And Sustain level should be also lower than full value, in zyn that is S.VAL

It's definitely an 'Envelope' that you need to modify and probably a combination of D.dt (decay time) and S.val (sustain value).
However if it is an AddSynth sound, it is slightly more involved - especially if more than one voice is used.

Can you say which specific ones you want to modify?

First and most important is a Sound named Electric Bass .xiz from the Bass collection. I like this sound very much, except I would like to have it fading out just like a real Bass would do.

Hmmm. I can't seem to find that. Was it perhaps renamed from Analog Bass?
Anyway, In AddSynth global try increasing D.dt to mid position, and reducing S.val to zero.

It's a fake .gz file. Just remove the .gz suffix.
