Windows VST on GNU/Linux(Ardour)

Post by apoorv569 »

Recently i created a post on Ardour(DAW) forums about Windows vst's on GNU/Linux, as i was unable to get them working. but people there helped me set that up,using carla patchbay as a plugin in ardour and i got it working on my laptop. few days back i tried to install carla and ardour on my main pc as well i installed everything that i installed on my laptop plugins and all, but for some reason my main pc is giving problems again. i cant load the plugins not just windows plugins but i cant load native linux plugins either.

the problem that i have is

i installed the same carla win bridges on my main PC, configured wine and carla same as i configured on my laptop but unable to load windows plugins

carla as standalone - https://imgur.com/P5EmY44

carla inside ardour as a plugin - https://imgur.com/FXrwAcx

im using arch linux. also i found something when trying to open carla standalone through terminal

On my laptop i got this ouput

Carla 2.0.90 (2.1-alpha2) started, status:
Python version: 3.7.4
Qt version: 5.13.1
PyQt version: 5.13.1

libjack.so.0 loaded sucessfully!
RtApiAlsa::probeDeviceOpen: unable to synchronize input and output devices.
RtApiAlsa::callbackEvent: audio write error, underrun.

On my pc i got this output

and also i found that its not just windows plugins that im unable to load in carla any native linux plugin gives same error can’t load so it must be something related to some missing library or something with the audio driver.

Do you have jack server running? Those errors look like you don't?

running carla standalone wont let me load windows plugins on my laptop either. when using carla patchbay inside ardour as a plugin i can load plugins. i dont use jack because for some reason when i start jack server and try to create new ardour session it gives me error. i use alsa driver. but on my pc i cant load plugins even when loading carla patchbay as a plugin inside ardour. if you can help me with setting up jack that would be a great help too.

Does Ardour work without jack? Or if you don't have jack, will it try to start it?
What distro you are using?

On Ubuntu, I just install qjackctl and pulseaudio-module-jack, run qjackctl, press start. In case of multiple audio interfaces (built-in and usb), you need to select which jack uses.
