Hi,

I'm using Ardour and you can map a hardware knob to a software knob by pressing CTRL + middle mouse.

is there a option to map a Midi Controll Change event to a knob in the plugin interface?

Sure. But it only works with plugin generic control gui (right click on plugin and 'edit with generic controls'). Alternatively click Automation button in track header -> Processor automation ->select plugin->select parameter and ctrl+middle on automation fader.
