Free VST synths?
Hey everyone,
So, I have been looking for some VST synths for a while now but haven't quite found a decent list yet. Could you guys recommend me some good free synths? Thanks.

I don't know a lot about native Linux synths but I do know that people seem to like ZynAddSubFX. I'm not sure what kinda 'free' you mean, but that one doesn't require payment I think. It's probably open source n all that too..
As for effects, Calf seem to be the go to ones.

Re: Free VST synths?
There are 3-4 free Linux native VST synths from u-he. Look in the 'New' section, the thread that starts with 'Mabuhay'. I posted a few links there. There are also free sound sets (some made by well-known sound designers) for these synths, as well as documentation.Gatsby wrote:So, I have been looking for some VST synths for a while now but haven't quite found a decent list yet. I forgot about the free u-he ones. I love u-he. I use Zebra 2 (not free). But yeh, check those out for sure!
Re: Free VST synths?
Thanks for all the suggestions! I found these two lists through my own google search:
https://techraver.com/best-synth-vst-plugins/
https://bedroomproducersblog.com/2017/1 ... gins-2017/
What do you make of these plugs? Which ones should I go for? I've heard a lot of great things about Helm and Dexed VSTs. Are they really good?

Try them all! Dexed and Helm are both excellent but very different to one another.Gatsby wrote: What do you make of these plugs? Which ones should I go for? I've heard a lot of great things about Helm and Dexed VSTs. Are they really good?

Re: Free VST synths?
my personal recommendation in no particular order
TAL - Noisemaker
Helm
Tyrell N6
Surge (not extensively used but I did some work on it )
OxeFM
I should recommend Zyn Fusion as it's one off the best sounding synths ever but somehow I can't push myself to really get into it.

Re: Free VST synths?
Quite the same as others already said, to me Helm and Noisemaker are musts, Zyn-fusion is promising as a giant for its sound but I must have something faulty in my brains wiring since I can't get a clue in its user interface, every time I think I've got it and managed to prepare a set of patches/channels I'm hardly randomly bruised and hazard bitten the next time I try to recall any of it
For something really good but quite different if you're on the eerie/kraze/uncanny sound creation side I'd also recommend "Wolpertinger", it has the looks of an Edsel, the commands of a Trabant and the perfs of a Testarossa.
