is the Cabinet in Guitarrix in impulse response effect or something else?

Tone Control - Cabinet is the "normal" cabinet simulation.

There is one based on impulse-response, too, but I am not familiar with that.

The cabinet in guitarix is indeed a impulse-response convolver, but, with predefined filter kernels.
The same is true for the Amp impulse.

To use your own impulse files you've to use one of the convolvers.
