VeeSeeVSTRack for Linux [official beta binaries available-updated 28 April 2019]

Post by davephillips »

Greetings:

The latest version:

veeseevstrack_0_6_1_lin64_bin-27April2019.tar.gz

Original text:

Developers bsp2 and cameronleger have been working on the Linux version of a VST plugin of the VCV Rack virtual modular synthesis environment. There are still various minor bugs to clear up, but the intrepid among you might like to take a swing at building/using it.

EDIT: Unofficial binaries at http://linux-sound.org/misc/veeseevstrack.tar.gz. Unpack to a writable directory that will be scanned by your DAW and you should be good to go. Please contact me if you need more help/information.

EDIT: Official beta build now available at https://github.com/bsp2/releases/raw/ma ... Oct2018.7z so please use my build only if you can't run the official version. Bugs and other problems should be reported to bsp2's github Issues tracker.

VeeSeeVSTRack plugin running in Bitwig:

Image

bsp2's main git repo:

https://github.com/bsp2/VeeSeeVSTRack

I have built and tested the plugin with Bitwig 2.3.5 and Ardour6. I get full performance in Bitwig but so far I've got no sound from the plugin in Ardour. I'll keep working with it.

Caveats:

Not all available modules are included with the plugin, including all the closed source modules, so no Vult or NYSTHI. Too bad, but that may change in the future.

There are still a number of unresolved graphics glitches. If you can run the plugin, please report any problems to the git Issues tracker.

Older systems like mine may require a few tweaks to the VSVR codebase. Feel free to contact me for suggestions if you hit the wall building the plugin.

The plugin requires the same base system requirements as VCV Rack, e.g. fairly recent OpenGL support.

bsp2 has stated that there will be no further development of the VSVR plugin after Rack 1.0 comes out. Andrew Belt, Rack's main developer, has already begun work on an "official" VST version of Rack, though I must add that Andrew has given the Nod Of Approval to bsp2's work. Also, there will be no VST3 version from bsp2. If someone else wants to carry the codebase into VST3-land they are welcome to do so at any time.

Have fun !

Best regards,

dp

Greetings,

If anyone wants to try it:

http://linux-sound.org/misc/veeseevstrack.tar.gz

Understand that this is an unsupported release that I've bundled for other Linux users to test for any remaining bugs and/or other issues . Unpack into a writable directory (we suggest ~/.vst) that will be scanned by your DAW and you should be good to go. I've included some basic patches if you need a clue or two to get started.

Tested successfully with Renoise, Bitwig, Reaper, and QTractor. The plugin will load fine in Ardour 5.12 but I can't get audio from it. Ardour6 doesn't even see it. I would appreciate hearing from any testers, especially wrt what DAW you're using as a host.

I can answer some questions regarding the plugin, but questions concerning VCV Rack and its usage should be directed to the Official VCV Rack Group page on FB. Please note that the developers of VCV Rack have nothing to do with this plugin and cannot provide any support for it, so limit your questions there only to VCV Rack matters.

Best regards,

dp

Hi, thanks for working on the new instrument package!
I got it loaded with some modules and connections in linux Reaper 5.95,
but the devs forgot the all important 'how to make a sound' paragraph
in the readme file. I'll check the videos later tonight.
The gui seems functional, blinking lights, different colors
for different connector choices etc. Looks like an excellent tool.
Cheers

I included basicpatch.vcv for that purpose. The screenshot in my first message shows how typical connections are made. Basically you need a MIDI-1 module for your DAW track's MIDI events to get into the patch, then you need an Audio module at the end to get sound from the patch. Pretty much anything can go in between those two modules, and knowing your penchant for putting together sound sources only the gods know what sort of sonic experiments you're about to conduct. :) Have fun !

Nothing too crazy so far, but this does make for a fine guitar
multi-effects plugin. Audio in from Mustang Amp models/presets
to Chopper Tremolo to AS Stereo Delay to Bevaco Spring Reverb
to Audio. A good distortion and chorus to slip in there
will be nice. Lot's of modules, which will be treats
which will be tricks...November knows

Testing in Carla failed; some vital parts of GUI are missing in basic plugins needed for I/O.

A note to the intrepid: Developer bsp2 (aka bsp804 on KVR) has updated the plugin significantly. Details can be found on the VeeSeeVSTRack github page. Lots of new modules, some bugfixes, maybe some new features. Definitely even more fun than before.

I don't see the 'intripidness' in there. It installs and runs in a snap (Bitwig 2.4.3). The 'intripidness' is rather found when trying to make sounds out of it. 8)
