guitarix cutting off sound

Post by finotti »

I was finally able to get a good (distorted) tone with guitarix and have been playing quite a bit with it now for practicing! (I'm still trying to get a good clean tone...)

But, every once in a while the sounds just cuts off and doesn't come back. Restarting guitarix makes the sound come right back. (I've checked cables, by the way. It seems fine.) I see no error message, neither in the event log window, nor in the terminal from which I've started it, and it doesn't seem to be related to xruns at all.

I'm running Debian Sid with KXStudio:

Code: Select all

# apt policy guitarix
guitarix:
  Installed: 3:0.36.1+git20180124v5
  Candidate: 3:0.36.1+git20180124v5
  Version table:
 *** 3:0.36.1+git20180124v5 500
        500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/kxstudio-debian/gcc5/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     3:0.36.1+git20180124 500
        500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/kxstudio-debian/plugins/ubuntu trusty/main amd64 Packages
     1:0.32.3+git20150416-1kxstudio1 500
        500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/kxstudio-debian/plugins/ubuntu lucid/main amd64 Packages
     0.36.1-1 500
        500 http://httpredir.debian.org/debian sid/main amd64 Packages
Does anyone have any idea of what I could do find what is going wrong?

Could you post your preset you use, so I could try to reproduce it. Most likely it is a maths (double) overrun in one of the plugins in use.

Thanks, tramp, for your help (and for developing guitarix!). The bank (LRF) is attached and its preset is "Dist1". I use an IR in the Convolver. If it matters is the free one from Red Wire: http://www.redwirez.com/free1960g12m25s.jsp?ref=home

Thanks!

Hi

I run dist1 now for about half an hour (yes, I've the BigPack from RedWire, great impulse responses), without a issue.
But, to be honest I received some reports against the jcm800 when used with 96khz samplerate. So, which samplerate do you use?

It occurs to me seemly at random. Yesterday, when I posted, every 10 minutes or so it was happening. Today it took over an hour to happen. But, if play long enough, it always does.

I'm running at 48kHz and 64 samples, by the way. But it does seem to be JCM 800 preamp. Today I realized that if turn it off, the sound comes back. Turning back on, it cuts again. It doesn't mute, but gets very low.

I can definitely live with it, either by living with the cut off or by simply turning off the JCM 800. It still sounds great. But let me know if you want to investigate further and there is anything I can do.

(BTW, dmesg shows nothing when it cuts off.)

Thanks again for the great support!

Unfortunately there is not much I can do. The JCM800 is a rather complex simulation, and it looks like a frame rate of 64 isn't enough to keep the simulation running. You may try it with a frame rate of 128, to see if that is the case.

Thanks, tramp for the reply. I understand that. The JCM 800 sounds great, but I can live without it for practicing. When mixing I can turn up the frame rate if I want to use it.

Thanks, again, for the great support and all your work with guitarix!
