Live effects on vocals

Post by falcon74 »

My current home recording setup is running Lubuntu (LXDE based, much lighter flavour of Ubuntu) on a dated dual-core Pentium (2.0GHz) + 2GB DDR2 RAM (circa 2012) laptop, along with a newly acquired Behringer Utopica UMC-22, USB2.0 audio interface. I am thinking of acquiring a USB MIDI controller (mostly the control surface) to add to it, for rapidly changing effects, and other settings during performance.

I can use the above setup to get somewhat usable (in latency terms) as an electric guitar effects processor + cabinet simulator using Rackarrak. However vocals routed through Rackarrak sound horrible (when using it exclusively for vocals processing), and I've still not figured out, how to run two instances of Rackarrak and have the Jack routing done correctly s.t. both guitar-effects and vocal-effects can be used simultaneously. In the end, I'm not sure if I'd need to really move to something like AVlinux for better performance ? Or, upgrade the PC (seems obvious) -- trying to avoid it. Or, is there a more appropriate software for this job ?

I'd like to use the above setup (at least, from hardware standpoint), live for small gigs. Can someone suggest combination of operating system, software to achieve what I've attempted to describe as the end goal.

Hi

Most Rakarrack effects been available as LV2 plugs[1]. So you could use any LV2 host, like Carla[1], to setup your processor of choice.
Kxstudio[3] provide all of that ready to use.
