Ardour 2 and 5, with new Calf package

Post by flagos »

Hi. I run Ubuntu Studio that has pre installed Ardour 2 with Calf plug ins.

Now, I've just installed Ardour 5 that run ok, but only with the old calf plug-ins.

So I compiled and installed the new Calf package (calf-0.0.60.tar.gz). But both Ardour versions (2 and 5) only see the old plug-ins.

How can I make at least Ardour 5 to launch the new Calf package?

Any help?

Thanks!

Maybe you need to remove old ones first?

Also, make sure that they in a path in which Ardour looks for plugins.

I can launch and see new plugins from 'Calf Jack Host', so I know they are installed.

And I have the environment set:

LV2_PATH=/usr/local/lib/calf

But neither Ardour 2 or Ardour 5 show the new plug-ins.

Any help?

Are you sure that's the right path? They're normally in an lv2 directory as far as I remember.

ardour just uses the lv2 libraries. You can test it more quickly by using the "lv2ls" command which lists all the plugins the library finds.
try in a terminal

Code: Select all

lv2ls | grep calf
to check.

the files should be in a *.lv2 directory and must have a manifest.ttl file in that directory AND that directory must be in the LV2_PATH

Hm! I had to install lv2ls. And running the command I have:

Error opening file /usr/local/lib/calf/calf.so/manifest.ttl (Not a directory)
lilv_world_load_bundle(): error: Error reading file:///usr/local/lib/calf/calf.so/manifest.ttl
Error opening file /usr/local/lib/calf/calf.la/manifest.ttl (Not a directory)
lilv_world_load_bundle(): error: Error reading file:///usr/local/lib/calf/calf.la/manifest.ttl
Error opening file /usr/local/lib/calf/calf.a/manifest.ttl (Not a directory)
lilv_world_load_bundle(): error: Error reading file:///usr/local/lib/calf/calf.a/manifest.ttl

But the installer told me:

Libraries have been installed in:
/usr/local/lib/calf

and

ls /usr/local/lib/calf
calf.a calf.la calf.so

Hold on.

The Calf installer readme says "Calf is installed as calf.so library in your LADSPA directory"

So it's a LADSPA plugin, not an LV2.

Right?

I believe that package containing ladspa has been the cause of a lot of problems lately. Did you download the Debian source? I'm curious about how you have ardour 2, that's really old.

I would suggest getting rid of that package you installed and then adding the kxstudio repo, install calf from there.

sysrquer: I downloaded from http://calf-studio-gear.org/files/ I've been using Ardour because it came with Ubuntu studio. I admit that i should upgrade a couple of years ago. :?

I remember reading somewhere that kxstudio repo has a unstable version of calf plugins, is that right?

Thanks!
