wow, cool!
This'll take off some pressure for me to get a GUI for reMID.
I assume they've mapped the different oscillator channels to different midi channels?

Re: 8-bit Treats from Tracktion
Has anyone had success with these? I haven't gotten them to scan in REAPER, Carla, or even Waveform. Putting all four .so files in my .vst folder causes REAPER not to start. I then decided to just test SID.so - REAPER starts now, but does not list SID among VSTis or VSTs. Carla does not seem to see it either. And Waveform sees it, but lists it as "deactivated". This is on Mint KDE 18.2 with KXstudio repos.

fwiw, I can confirm they run just fine on my UbuntuStudio 16.04 with kXStudio repos. Using Ardour 5.12.0
My mother tongue is swedish. Running KXstudio on Xubuntu 22.04. No wine. No whine. But beers.

Re: 8-bit Treats from Tracktion
Greetings,
Reading KVR this morning I noticed a message regarding these plugins, in which I also found this :
http://socalabs.com/
JUCE-based source code for all plugins (plus one more). I've built and tested all five plugins in Bitwig 2.1.1 on Fedora 21, everything works fine but there are no presets (not that these little things require any, and you can save your own if you like).
Best,
dp

Re: 8-bit Treats from Tracktion
The binaries include version symbols for GLIBC. They won't run on Fedora 21.falkTX wrote:I suspect the plugins were built in an incorrect way, needing newer libs or CPU.

Re: 8-bit Treats from Tracktion
Carla reports an "illegal instruction". In another forum, I was recommended to try MrsWatson to test them, which also reported an illegal instruction. The plugins' programmer says that they compiled them on Ubuntu 16.04 (which is basically what I am using with Mint 18.2). Could my use of kernel 4.10 vs. 4.8 cause this?falkTX wrote:Use a CLI scanner tool to find out what's wrong.
With carla, you can use this:I suspect the plugins were built in an incorrect way, needing newer libs or CPU.Code: Select all
/usr/lib/carla/carla-discovery-native vst /path/to/binary.so
The fact that they require "Ubuntu 15" which is not even a thing makes me sad

Re: 8-bit Treats from Tracktion
Fantastic news! These could well the the softsynths I've waited 2 decades for!
I've just given them a quick go with the latest REAPER dev build under Ubuntu 17.10 x64. REAPER can load them but all the text is missing in the UIs apart from the name of the synth. Also, I'm a bit concerned that the SID plugin makes the REAPER VU meters jump even when not in use.
I'll have to try them under Ardour to see if the UI displays fine there although I wouldn't want to use them under Ardour.

Re: 8-bit Treats from Tracktion
I'm having the same issue with the UIs (and the SID VU meter) under Ardour as REAPER.
Either I don't have the correct font installed or maybe I just need to build them from source?
I'm running Ubuntu MATE 17.10 BTW

davephillips:
Can you please explain how you built these plugins - I've not had much luck so far:
https://github.com/FigBug/SID/issues/1
EDIT
I wonder if Dave used this to build these plugs:
https://github.com/McMartin/JUCE.cmake
?

Re: 8-bit Treats from Tracktion
I had the same problem with fonts, and I solved it by installing TTF fonts from MS (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ttf-ms-fonts/ in Arch).

Re: 8-bit Treats from Tracktion
Yep - I got the font issue fixed, as those which have checked out my github ticket will have noticed. The solution was as I expected (MS fonts not installed), specifically Verdana is required BUT users of recent versions of Ubuntu (including 17.10) cannot install msttcorefonts from the package manager in the usual way due to a known bug in said package. The workaround at present is to run:
I'm just about to have another go at building it now that the dev has explained what I need to do so.
Code: Select all
wget http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/contrib/m/msttcorefonts/ttf-mscorefonts-installer_3.6_all.deb
sudo dpkg -i ttf-mscorefonts-installer_3.6_all.deb

Re: 8-bit Treats from Tracktion
I have got SID to build under 17.10. Roland says he is probably going to integrate the submodules into the SID tree soon so there should be no need to have a github account with SSH keys configured to build these plugins soon but as for now the build process is as follows:
`git submodule update --init --recursive` will fail if you don't have you SSH keys configured for GH.
https://help.github.com/articles/adding ... b-account/
Code: Select all
git clone https://github.com/WeAreROLI/JUCE.git
git clone https://github.com/FigBug/SID.git
cd SID
git submodule update --init --recursive
cd plugin/Builds/LinuxMakefile/
make
