Can Carla record audio?

Can Carla record audio?
This may be very stupid question, but...
I use Carla to play MIDI files in some synths (Helm, OXBD etc.). I suppose I could use Jack and connect it to another audio app for recording. But I have problems with Jack (probably due to my very weak and old rig). Carla works fine without Jack, though. So can I add a plugin or something which just records the MIDI file's playing to audio?
Us there a LV2 or Carla internal audio recorder? Or is there already simpler way of recording?
I'd be very grateful for simple solution.

Re: Can Carla record audio?
jack makes this so much easier that I have never looked into how can record audio "internally" without it. I just googled a bit and found these two interesting links. I hope they help.

Here is a LV2 recorder plug I've written some years ago:Markku wrote:Any LV2 etc. audio recorders then?

Re: Can Carla record audio?
Not LV2, but another (very lightweight) recorder is timemachine.

Re: Can Carla record audio?
tranp, your LV2 recorder compiles and works beautifully! Great!
However, it begins recording when it's applied and stops when it's removed from Carla. This needs more knowledge.
Is it possible that the recorder is only active when synth makes sound? This could be my mistake, I am beginner with Carla.
Any patchbay tricks or...?

Have you tried non-timeline. The non apps are very minimalist and lightweight.Markku wrote: I suppose I could use Jack and connect it to another audio app for recording. But I have problems with Jack (probably due to my very weak and old rig).

So, is it possible to start/stop recording with Carla's patchbay or something else?
Re: Can Carla record audio?
I haven't had Audacity for quite some time, but if my memory serves, you can have it record the output of any one specific audio card. Maybe that will do the trick.
You really should try to fix JACK on your machine, though.

Re: Can Carla record audio?
That's strange, usually it provide a record button, a format selection and a clip indicator.Markku wrote:However, it begins recording when it's applied and stops when it's removed from Carla.
Didn't carla provide them?
Here is how it is provided by jalv

Re: Can Carla record audio?
Ok, that was error on my part! Carla shows that toggle as 1 (means record) and 0 (means stop recording). I didn't realize it's purpose.
Well, I have complete functionality without Jack. As I said, I have nothing against Jack, but for reference (to show how weak PC I have) when I tried recording from Carla to Qtractor, I was successful, but two of the three times Jack reported huge amount of xruns and Carla hanged after that.
Without Jack there was pretty neat recording.
I know, it might (again) be just my misuse of Jack, but I was *trying* to follow documentation with using Jack.
But I have now what I need, I think. Helm works perfectly, for Obxd I need to figure out how to load presets, other synths look promising...
Thank you all! You're the best!

Re: Can Carla record audio?
Sox is another audio recorder (not compatible with Jack).
(Timemachine is not as "lightweight" as it looks.... )

Re: Can Carla record audio?
No, it will use the samplerate from your session and write in SF_FORMAT_FLOAT, which means 32bit.briandc wrote:Is the recording quality adjustable? (bit depth, rate, etc)?
You can choose between wav or ogg (SF_FORMAT_VORBIS) format.
On the road again.
