MIDI Trigger LV2 plug-in announce

We released our plug-in which sends MIDI notes by audio peaks under GNU/GPLv3.

It has one audio input port and one MIDI output port. It works like trigger-sampler, but more unix-way (without sampler). You just send output MIDI note to sampler that you love. You can save dynamic of your audio signal, just use velocity controls.

Pretty sure this is purely for triggering samples by detection onset of transients. ~So no pitch detection.

Ive actually been waiting for something like this, i have a couple of electronic drum triggers and no brain. Will need to try this.

Also this will come in handy when wanting to layer extra sounds with an existing acoustic kit without having to manually add it in.

Haven't tried it yet, but I've heard these are very useful for recording poor quality drumkits. Since the kit or the room sounds bad anyway, just mic the individual drums, then use this thing to trigger a higher quality sample. So the actual dumkit never goes to the final recording. Maybe its lazy but some guys don't even bother to try to mic a kit very well. They just plan to use a drum replacer from the get go.

No, it just detect peaks by RMS and send MIDI-note which you chose in plugin params. It's designed for drums retriggering. May be we'll create another plugin with pitch detection, but it's much more difficult, detect pitch of single note is not a big deal, but what about chords?

Theres alot more uses to this than just replacing poorly recorded drums. A much better use is to use samples to enhance the already recorded drums.

An interesting use of triggering is to duplicate say the snare track, and use that with a sample that goes to a reverb. so your getting the sampled sound through a reverb instead of the real snare.

Using a sampled kick triggered from the snare sent to a reverb creates a really interesting reverb sound for snare.

Even cheap drums can sound acceptable if tuned correctly. there was a video i watched on youtube by drumeo that showed a $150 2nd unknown name kit. they changed nothing except the tunning. Not even replaced the old and worn heads and turned it from a kit with boomy undefined kit bisucit tin sounding snare and boingy toms into a kit with a punchy kick tight and snappy snare and toms that had tone.

it was by far perfect but more than usuablle and with some processing would make a decent recorded kit.

there really has to be something said about get it right at the mic. I really dont like the "fix it in the mix" mentality. start out with good source and you can spend more time enhancing rather then fixing/replacing sounds.
