U-he native linux Diva is working in Carla
edit: New release of both Carla, and U-he linux vsts, nice successes!
Of the new U-he versions 3482, there is good news
ACE, Bazille, Diva, and Podolski all working in Carla,
with the U-he gui's, including preset loading.
(adjusting the quality function in Diva crashed Carla)
Hive shows the new gui, but won't close the splash routine.
(The hive controls do seem to work in Carlas gui)
Presswerk may be mono, Carla says only stereo works in the rack
Satin worked (tested output from Podolski) but switching to the delay panel
caused a crash. Adjusting Satins knobs on the main screen was OK)
None of the Uhbiks, work, and neither does Zebra2, or anything it installs,
zebralette, zebrify etc
So four powerhouse synths to test, likely with some gui bugs. But that's still progress!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I briefly tested Diva using Carla's built-in gui panel. I tried the controls in the first few sections,
and didn't have any issues, changing glide and legato etc Diva is very demanding of cpu, but in the third control slot,
third one down, 'OPT: Accuracy' let's you slide left to draft mode, which still sounds fine,
but allows tired old computers like mine, to experiment. Diva and rakarrack
Periodic crackles are the Diva demo restriction. The installer places the Diva folder in .uhe
with links to .vst. Perhaps the other seven U-he demos will also work...
Cheers

Re: U-he native linux Diva is working in Carla
After dealing with the firewood and breakfast, Ace, Bazille, Podolski, and Satin also worked.
Bazille reported it had too many parameters for the native Carla control panel, (Berlin Modularitus) but the sound was working.
I'll reinstall Zebra2, Zebrify, and the Uhbiks later. For some reason, they showed no available ports in the Carla display.
Cheers

Re: U-he native linux Diva is working in Carla
Presswerk (a compressor) works after I reinstalled it. These are V3193, but not all the folders reflect that after installation.
Looks like Zebra2, Zebrify, and Zebralette all appear during the Zebra2 install, but along
with Uhbik, are still not showing any ports.

Re: U-he native linux Diva is working in Carla
I posted some error info regarding u-he gui not working in Carla, in the u-he linux topic at kvr.
Perhaps there will be a fix soon. Bitwig is nice, but pricey. Maybe a Traction user here could try these,
and mention the results?
Cheers

Uhe-gui´s work in tracktion. Only fault is that the gui´s are cropped at the lower range.

Thanks for the info, I downloaded the Tracktion linux version, and will try it out. I have
a license on V2x, so Santa might be able to afford a purchase.

A license for tracktion V2? There is no need, tracktion V5 is free for linux users.

Re: U-he native linux Diva is working in Carla
Got the free linux version, and it's pretty nice, native vsts work OK, and U-he gui are indeed
cropped at the bottom. Also, Diva64 and Ace64 presented blank black rectangles, and the
the 32 bit versions of those two, were apparently not loved by the scan. I have them
in ~.vst, /usr/local/lib/vst, and /usr/lib/vst. Some links are in the u-he install routine,
I think I'll experiment and replace them with the real thing.
Getting the windows update is only $30, and might encourage some more linux dev work.
The bundled Melodyne Light might be a useful freeebie to have in the future,
if I could ever stop scaring off vocal coaches

This i found too.antiesen wrote:Uhe-gui´s work in tracktion. Only fault is that the gui´s are cropped at the lower range.
Please take a look at my u-he linux bug report at kvr.
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... c&start=60
Start is the 4th post on that site.
Can you find a similar behavior of the synth s gui i described?
Thanks

Re: U-he native linux Diva is working in Carla
Yes, In Tracktion, I see the same partial black vst panel, with the same result that it is redrawn
correctly if reloaded, except the 5% or so missing on the bottom.
It looks like the official position is, 'if it works in bitwig, it works', and the various issues
belong to the other hosts. I would expect this to change somewhat, once the project is further along,
and more sales occur. I think they are very busy this season.
There are likely some linux users who initially could afford a U-he synth, but not bitwig AND a u-he synth.
And some who are happy to wait for their preferred hosts to advance in vst capability.
Also, for those new to U-he, installing Zebra2 demo also installs a free synth called Zebralette,
which is a fully functioning portion of Zebra, and very useful in it's own right, and a good preparation
for using the full Zebra later, as desired. And I think presets made in Zebralette will also work in Zebra.
Good planning, from a great developer.
I read where sales numbers of Bazille crush the sales of Diva like a cheap beer can,
which their creators didn't really expect, but are quite pleased with.

Re: U-he native linux Diva is working in Carla
The point is it is not U-he devs themselves who made the port, but someone (abique) who proposed them to do it. And it seems he uses Bitwig-studio (he says somewhere in the thread on KVR that he doesn't even use JACK). So it works for him and that's it, he's not paid to fix our problems on our hosts. Fine for me, it's already great that he did what he did. I just think it should be stated clearly cause to announce a "Linux public beta" is not exactly true, it's a "Bitwig Studio on Ubuntu public beta and good for them if it works for others".glowrak guy wrote:It looks like the official position is, 'if it works in bitwig, it works', and the various issues

That's not true at all, abique is actively working with the Renoise developer to fix some issues.glowrak guy wrote: It looks like the official position is, 'if it works in bitwig, it works', and the various issues

Re: U-he native linux Diva is working in Carla
I hope this inspires other devs to focus for awhile at least, on native vst hosting.
I don't think anyone is labeling things wrongly, more a matter of just 24 hour per day,
and 30 hours worth of work waiting each day at sunrise.
I hope Ablique, and everyone helping, realize the impact of this project.
alsa supporting some 'pro-tools' hardware, can have an impact.
As will release of the mod lv2/stomp system. Street creds are hard to come by,
but a nice line is forming!
Cheers

That's nice, but he has stated he doesn't have time to sort every host issue.sysrqer wrote:That's not true at all, abique is actively working with the Renoise developer to fix some issues.glowrak guy wrote: It looks like the official position is, 'if it works in bitwig, it works', and the various issues
Even Hercules needs sleep, recreation, and a 'day job'

That's hardly surprising. With regards to Tracktion it has a record of being terrible with VSTs, it was only recently that they fixed it so you could actually scan for them at all successfully. It still has issues with some even in Windows. But not supporting all hosts is hardly the same as only supporting Bitwig, which is simply not true.
