I don't mind helping users install them through the terminal, but I think having packages in your repo would probably help my exposure a lot.

Carla as an lv2 plugin?

yes!

Only the rack mode will work for an initial version, but that already gives us a lot I think.
DSSI in Ardour3 and simple GIG/SF2/SFZ management at least.

I did a test yesterday and was able to use carla within carla within carla, etc... 6 levels deep!

Heh, that was actually me who posted it on the mailing list originally. We don't really have any official plans to utilize Carla in LMMS in any way, it was actually just some idle speculation on my part. I'm however very much in favour of getting LinuxVST support finally implemented in LMMS, and using VST!Carla in LMMS would certainly be one very interesting possibility resulting from this.
