Speaker simulation

Is there any free speaker simulation plugin?
I've got a VRMbox, but I would really like to use a free plugin to do that...

The Caps plug in suite has speaker emulation (I think it calls it cabinet) as a LADSPA plugin

Or use IR LV2 and load up some IR CAB files (just google a bit to download some files), they are a bit heavier on CPU but you will get some decent speaker cabinet sounds. They have all the cabs you want ENGL, Marshall, Mesa Boogie etc.

get some IR cab files and load them in KlangFalter. (make sure you run it 100% wet to get the full IR sound of the cabinet)

It's so easy to do a amp profile, save it as IR-file and save the hole session as (guitarix)preset. You can compare the results and fiddle with the settings since you are 100% satisfied, specmatch do a remote control over guitarix, for easy access. But you could also use it without guitarix, if you wish, to make "plain" Ir-files. You could also use other files, downloaded from YouTube or elsewhere, to make a IR-file from. I never before found such a easy way to make IR-files in such a high quality.

Yeah, that's just an awesome new feature. Wish I had some time to record some stuff and run it through various amp and mic setups

I'm talking about guitarix. A difference to the Kemper is that guitarix (specmatch) use your guitar signal for profiling, were the Kemper use a test signal.
But, the learning curve to do it with guitarix, is really flat and low. As easy as just push some buttons, play a bit guitar and turn a knob for fine tuning. True, you can compare the files and the produced IR-file in a spectral plot window, but specmatch provide also a record, and a play button, so you can switch during playback between orginal and profiled (by guitarix) sound to compare it with your ears. As soon you have press "create IR", it get created and loaded into guitarix and you can play live to controll your results.

There is as well a new amp model in the pipe (tools/ampsim) which emulate the real circuit much closer (pre/poweramp section).
True, it comes with the cost of some more CPU use, but I'm pretty sure with this one (and a IR-file produced by specmatch) you will match your "favorite half stack" to minimum 99%.

tramp. let me get this? I connect my guitar to my pc, launch specmatch and connect through jackd and follow instructions for specmatch?
or do I need to mic an amp up?
just confused on the specmatch instructions in the README.
