Installed KXStudio - Now All Sound Devices Are Missing

Post by bbarton1169 »

Hi All,

I installed KXStudio on top of Ubuntu 11.10. When I finished with the Meta packages and rebooted, my sound devices are missing. Is there an easy way to put them back?

Don't bother. I had these glitches when I first installed too. You don't need the pulse audio devices etc.
You set up your devices in JACK, using Cadence or qjackctl. They will show up there in the driver list and choose the driver you want and restart JACK. If they aren't listed, you might need to force restart if you started JACK first and then connected your device.

JACK can only use one device at a time, so you pick one and have to restart JACK to change.

There's another system (alsa_in / alsa_out) for loading multiple devices into JACK, discussed in part at this other topic:

Among many other places for info on that.
You probably shouldn't bother with that right away. It's only if you must use multiple separate devices at once. Otherwise, switch back and forth by starting and stopping JACK and choosing different driver…

You might need to use "alsamixer" in terminal for device levels and such.

I think you will otherwise just ignore the missing devices notices.
