Carla no longer loading bridged Windows VST's

Post by G M Slater »

Carla has stopped loading any bridged Wndows VST's on my system. If I open a saved setting that includes both Windows VST's and Linux effects (like LADSPA), the Linux ones load, but the Windows ones do not. If I attempt to manually add a Windows VST, the message pops up stating that the plugin bridge is loading, but after that another message pops up stating "Failed to load plugin. Timeout while waiting for a response from plugin-bridge (or the plugin crashed on initialization?)" This happens with all bridged VST's and only started occurringrecently, so I am assuming it has to do with Carla upgrading to version 2.1.0, since the same VST's load fine when using stand-alone hosts like NanoHost, Savi-Host, etc. I have tried reinstalling Carla, Carla's various bridges, WINE, etc. but nothing has resolved. Not sure where to go from here. Anyone have advice?

Which version of KXStudio are you using?
Please start Carla from a terminal and post the errors.

Running Ubuntu 19.10 with the KXStudio repos installed. Version number for the repos shows in Synaptic as 10.0.3.

Starting Carla from the command line gives:

LRDF Support not available (LADSPA-RDF will be disabled)
Carla 2.1.0 started, status:
Python version: 3.7.6
Qt version: 5.9.6
PyQt version: 5.9.2

libjack.so.0 loaded successfully!

Thank you for your assistance. I am not dead in the water, though. I can open my saved settings in Carla (minus the Windows VST's), then open the desired Windows VST's in separate hosts, then use the Carla patchbay to route everything correctly...

Hello,
Sounds like the same problem that I was having and someone helped me fix.

In the Logs tab within Carla (GUI) do you get this messege?
wine: '/home/thomas/.wine' is a 64-bit installation, it cannot be used with a 32-bit wineserver.
But of course, your username in place of thomas. If you do get that messege you might look at this post viewtopic.php?f=47&t=21656 to see if that helps.
