KX Studio RT kernel?

Post by Aleks »

Is there a RT kernel in the KX Studio repositories that I can install just by typing a command in the terminal? I use Ubuntu 16.04, and I would also like to keep the stock kernel for regular tasks.

There should be one in your Ubuntu Repository that you can install with your package manager.

Lowlatency, yes, but realtime?

Debian has RT, but no low latency. I'm not sure about Ubuntu.

Have you tried the Xanmod kernel? There is a RT kernel there.

KX repos do not have kernels.
First hit searching for "ubuntu realtime kernel" basically says to use low-latency instead -
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Ubunt ... TimeKernel
I've done a little kernel testing lately in Debian and found the Liquorix low-latency kernel gave best results, better than either debian-rt or xanmod. There are perhaps particular cases where an RT kernel may improve response like for live MIDI use but generally there is no advantage and possibly some disadvantages with RT. One big advantage with low-latency kernels is you usually can use them for everyday tasks.
There are RT kernels in an AVLinux repo which you could try if you must appease your curiosity.
