Carla and Catia

Post by LinMusGuy »

I already use Carla and recently installed Catia too because of its ALSA-MIDI bridge. But it looks like Carla automatically deals with this issue.

So my question is: is there any reason to use Catia when you already use Carla?

Do you mean Claudia and Catia? Catia and Carla are completely different tools.

No - Carla and Catia. Is there anything you can do with Catia that you cannot do with Carla?

Carla is a plugin host and rack. Catia is a tool to make connections e.g. between your daw and external synths or between an EQ and your speakers, etc.

I use Carla as a plugin host and rack and also as a tool to make connections between synths, plugins, etc.

ah.. right forgot this. Maybe in Catia in you have the transport controls also and is maybe midi routing is not possible in Carla (have to check this, I always you Catia for connecting stuff).

The important thing for me is the ALSA-MIDI bridge. I saw a video about Aeolus where Catia is used to connect an external MIDI-keyboard to Aeolus, so I installed Catia to do the same with my virtual keyboard. And it worked. But then I tried the same with Carla and it also worked. So I'm wondering if it's sensible to keep using Catia when Carla does the same. Or is this perhaps different for an external MIDI-keyboard?

I have Catia running all the time and make my connections there. The midi connections also show up in Carla, so maybe you just can use whatever you want. As long it works it should be fine :)
