Just because IRC has been around for a while that doesn't mean it's archaic (and something new isn't necessarily better). I posted two links of easy to use web based IRC front-ends, there is nothing difficult about using these web interfaces to IRC, certainly not more difficult than using a forum.sysrqer wrote: It also seems a very popular service these days, especially amongst Windows users, so it could mean more people with a casual interest asking questions and engaging which can only be a good thing. I have never used discord and have no idea what it is but my impression of kxstudio is that it aims to make things easier for people rather than being free, and using discord instead of some archaic platform seems to fit that.
OTOH I had never heard about Discord before either so I wouldn't call it a popular service. It's a much larger barrier to ask people to install a new app they have never used before, just to ask a question about kxstudio, than simply use a web based IRC frontend.
If falkTX had suggested Whatsapp I could understand the reason, as that's something nearly everybody already uses and is familiar with (but of course Whatsapp is proprietary too so I'd still be against it).
If anything I think falkTX should advertise the kxstudio IRC channel better (and provide a link to an IRC web front end), as it seems many kxstudio users don't even know that the channel exists.
Ultimately falkTX can do whatever he wants, but since he asked for our opinion, I gave mine.
