upgrading kx trusty to ubuntu 16

hi all ...

im running a kxstudio trusty lowlatency setup + XFce 4.10 and i would like to update ubuntu from 14 to 16 or even 17 if thats recommendable, mainly because i want to upgrade to XFce 4.12.

- is that problematic, will the core of kxstudio still work?
- is there a lowlatency kernel in 16?
- how is that done without having to reinstall my whole system?
