Re: Package updates in the KXStudio repositories
Slightly off-topic, but regarding ardour and issues with plugin UIs:
ardour 6 will remove support for Gtk and Qt plugin UIs
What´s the consequence of that? I guess many plugins can´t be use then with Ardour, like the v1 synths, etc. ?

I've got the impression that the Ardour developers don't like CALF pluginslilith wrote:Ok, so there are solutions already implemented

Re: Package updates in the KXStudio repositories
I cannot believe it will not be possible to update Guitarix from KXStudio repo
It is one of the building blocks of the linux audio system (at least for guitarists)
Please... keep supporting it

Are you sure?falkTX wrote:Some small updates (I forgot to post here...)
Some notes:
guitarix was updated, up to the point it switched to curl library.
due to differences on curl ABI and packaging (libcurl3 vs libcurl4), I cannot update guitarix further or its build will stop working for 18.04
Guitarix ain't depend on a special version of libcurl, and work with both.
You could build it against libcurl3, and it still work with libcurl4! (I've just done exactly that.)
Both libcurl (3 + 4) versions provide "libcurl.so.4" which is used for linking.
All you need to do is using in the dependency field of the package "libcurl3|libcurl4" instead only one version, then the version installed will be used.

Too bad Ardour won't display Guitarix's plugins UI anymore, I've just updated guitarix to version 0.37.3 by building it from source, and yeah it's true, unfortunately.

When you ain't use ardour6, and I guess you ain't, but using ardour5, it's more likely you fail into this issue:Rodney wrote:Too bad Ardour won't display Guitarix's plugins UI anymore, I've just updated guitarix to version 0.37.3 by building it from source, and yeah it's true, unfortunately.

Problem is that ardour, when download from ardour.org or from kxstudio, use older gtk/glib library's then the ones installed on your system.
So when you build guitarix yourself, you need to build ardour as well, in order to be able to use the guitarix LV2 plugin UI's.
Or, when using ardour from KxStudio, you must use guitarix from KxStudio as well, in order to use the UI's in ardour.
Alternative you could export the guitarix LV2 plugs with carla and use the exported versions, which then use the UI's as a external UI.

It wont be a rose-garden.falkTX wrote:With gtk4 coming soon, this will get quite messy for gtk hosts and plugins...
I fully support ardour's decision here, this is really showing being "courageous"

Re: Package updates in the KXStudio repositories
never mind. it's going to reach its EOL just in half a year. and everyone should be aware of it.falkTX wrote:14.04 is starting to show its age...
at the moment, 16.04 is super stable, so there are no real reasons not to migrate to it.
and 18.04 will become really usable in just a few months too (as it always happens with any Ubuntu LTS release)
