What happened to Freqtweak?

Post by thebutant »

Hey.
As I wanted to use Freqtweak in a project (for the first time in a couple of years), I just realized it's gone from the repos.
Not too strange, of course, the latest version I find of it is from 2009.
I guess there's a good reason it's gone, probably dependency issues or something similar.
A bit sad still, right?
I used to have a lot of fun with Freqtweak.

Anyone knows what happened to it?

I think freqtweak is not under very active development anymore. However, I use it sometimes on Arch. You can install it from the AUR. Given that Arch is bleeding edge (mostly) I would think you can compile from source and have it running on your system without too many troubles (unless some dependency clash with other installed packages). The PKGBUILD can help you for that. You will need to find the packages for your system that match the items in the depends array. Than you can use the commands in the build() and package() function manually in the unpacked freqtweak archive to compile and install.

Thanks for the answer.
Yes, I'm guessing it's possible to build from source.*
I just have a feeling it used to be in the KX Studio repos, and now it doesn't seem to be there anymore. Really not a big problem, just sad if a cool tool like Freqtweak disappears simply because it's old.

* as I run Debian, not Arch. Actually AUR is what I miss from my Arch days.

I also miss that tool!
Even if its not under active developement, there is nothing that can directly compare.
I'd really like to know why such a gem is suddenly missing.
Is there a .deb package to download somewhere for the unexperienced and lazy users?
I use Debian stretch.

Freqtweak was available in Jessie from the debian repositories. So I guess it was never hosted by kxstudio.
Maybe it should.
I downloaded the old .deb package from here:
https://packages.debian.org/de/jessie/a ... k/download

and tried to install it in my stretch/kxstudio using GDebi. It complains about libsigc++1,2-5c2.
Available in stretch is: libsigc++-2.0-0v5

Could those two libraries coexist somehow? Whats the solution? Has anyone successfully installed freqtweak in Debian-stretch?

I managed to install this great tool on my debian-stretch/kxstudio machine.
Here is how:
I installed xubuntu LTS on a Laptop because I wanted to try out lightworks.
I was happy to find out that freqtweak was available on that system.
Then I went to the ubuntu page to look for a .deb intaller package and tried to install it on stretch using Gdebi and Gdebi complained about a missing libsigc++-1.2-5c2
Then i found the libsigc++-1.2-5c2_1.2.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb packkage and Gdebi had no Problem installing it and after that I could also install freqtweak_0.7.2-4.1build2_amd64 :-)
