Hi Shupacabras, I really appreciate the tutorial ... But I think I would rather install the Kxstudio same repository, this error I get when I try to install the repository ... Probably other people are having the same error when I install the temptation repositories KXStudio.

Installed (updated) ardour today.
No errors when installing, although I have a small issue with the Mint menu not showing ardour.

What commands did you enter that gave the error you mentioned ?

You typed "apt install ardour", but the command should be

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install ardour

Edit : sorry, I didn't read properly, I guess apt should work too

Hi
slight problem here too.

I did 'sudo apt-get update' followed by 'sudo apt-get install ardour' which gave me:

Code: Select all

pas@ProBook-6550b:~$ sudo apt-get install ardour
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  ardour4
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  ardour
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 1 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 64.5 MB of archives.
After this operation, 7,862 kB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] y
Fetched 64.5 MB in 15s (4,122 kB/s)
dpkg: ardour4: dependency problems, but removing anyway as you requested:
 kxstudio-meta-audio depends on ardour4 | ardour4-git | ardour; however:
  Package ardour4 is to be removed.
  Package ardour4-git is not installed.
  Package ardour is not installed.
It went on and installation completed.
But now there's no icon for Ardour5 in the menu, while the one for Ardour4 is still there.
I can launch Ardour5 from the terminal with command 'ardour'. Seems to run fine.

Make that +1 more...

Have to launch from terminal here as well, but otherwise everything seems to work fine so far.

Some questionable lines i noticed on start...

- Cannot xinstall SIGPIPE error handler

- Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
(even tho - libcanberra-gtk3-module is already the newest version (0.30-2.1ubuntu1).)

- curl failed: No Error

debian did this so we need to follow.
Now that's an important piece of information. I was already waiting ... this could be any day now ... :-)

I expected it to install next to Ardour 4 as described on ardour.org. But it wants to uninstall ardour 4.
Why is that?
Its going to have to wait another day as I have a little project to do tomorrow before I upgrade.

Thanks so much for your work. Great job

You can always create a new Starter on the Desktop with the following content:

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Name=Ardour
Comment=Digital Audio Workstation
Exec=/usr/bin/ardour
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Icon=/opt/ardour/share/icons/ardour-app-icon_osx.png
Categories=AudioVideo;AudioEditing;Audio;Recorder;
MimeType=application/x-ardour;
Path=
StartupNotify=false

So you can start it from the Desktop, or put a starter into a Dock/Panel

What distro are you using ?

I see a GCC5 mentioned in this screenshot

You might need to install the kxstudio-repos-gcc5.deb
Take note of this on http://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org/Repositories
If you're using a system newer or equal to Debian Testing or Ubuntu 15.10 you'll also need to enable GCC5 packages.
You can do so by installing this deb file - kxstudio-repos-gcc5.deb, or manually by running this:

# Download package file
wget https://launchpad.net/~kxstudio-debian/ ... o1_all.deb

# Install it
sudo dpkg -i kxstudio-repos-gcc5_9.2.2~kxstudio1_all.deb
