(Solved) Debian Jessie KXStudio repositories .low-latency-kernel?

Post by korakios »

Hi,
Maybe it's only for Ubuntu ,but I can't find any low-latency kernel on Debian Jessie after enabling KXStudio repositories.
Googling around didn't help. So KXRepos do not provide any kernel ?Only for (the wonderful up-to-date) audio programs?

Thanks falkTX for clarifying this :)
I think it should be noted on kxstudio repository page for newbs like me!
I'll try the KXdistro ,since kubuntu 15.10 didn't work so well, a bit laggy on everything even on powerful machine.

Just a note for those using Jessie based distros - MX-15 has a community repository that contains Liquorix kernels compiled for Jessie. They are low latency and work as well, if not better, than Ubuntu lowlatency kernels for audio work.

Tried to make fglrx (amd radeon restricted drivers) to work with avlinux new distro, but I thought the av custom kernel was my only problem . (btw the avlinux kernel rocks for rt-audio!)
Back to the topic:

The liquorix repos where down so used the mirrors provided on https://liquorix.net/
The trick of adding mepis repos as @eric71 suggested also works (Thanks!)

Problem solved.

Off-topic: There is a bug on current (debian) fglrx driver and does not install due to missing dependencies and waiting for fix.

Thanks :)

Yup, the liquorix kernels from antix run all smooth on my hardware. Wanna try the brand new AVL kernel whatsoever.

In extreme low buffer settings it beats low latency and liquorix kernels ( at least on my hardware )

Hi,

Now that AVL 2016 is out I will be making the Kernel Repo public soon, they should work fine for Debian users of Jessie and Stretch, I don't now about Ubuntu it is untested here with AVL Kernels. AVL Kernels have no release schedule, essentially when there are enough Audio-specific features merged into upstream we consider a new one so if you are a 'must-have-the-latest-kernel-at-all-times' person you will be better off with Liquorix.

That's fantastic news, Glenn. Big thanks to you and Trulan Martin for your generosity.

Who cares about release schedules. For a reliable production/professional system If a kernel runs flawlesly and smooth better stick to it until you find something better (or getting brand new hardware needing support), which doesn't happen often once you've got a really good one.

BTW, I think this quote/advice/warning from GMaq belongs here a bit too:

Hi all,

I am quite new to Debian - installed JEssi 8.4 AMD64 and now wanted to test with a RT / Low Latency Kernel.
Can someone help me to to this? I read through this post and also saw that Debian 8 should have an RT Kernel but did not find any instructions or sources to do that.

I am also interested in that Liquorix and with the LINK mentioned below it should work.
http://main.mepis-deb.org/

What exactly do I have to do to get this Kernel?

Thanks

They don't appear to use metapackages to always keep the liquorix kernel up to date - so you need to install a header package and a linux-image package. In their normal stable community repo (i.e. not their testing repo) the latest for amd64 seem to be:

http://mxrepo.com/mx/repo/pool/main/l/l ... _amd64.deb
and
http://mxrepo.com/mx/repo/pool/main/l/l ... _amd64.deb

You can download and install those. I needed kernel 4.4 or higher to use some of my hardware, so I used their backport of liquorix kernel 4.5 from their testing repo, but the 4.2 here should be a safer bet.

Thanks a lot :-)

It works I used the "normal" repo not the testing as I have no need for >4.2 Kernel.

Did some testing and it seems very stable. I will now continue with some Audio tests.

Have a great day
