What (usb) interface are you using ?

Post by Copeau »

Hi everyone,
I've been using KXStudio for a few months now, mainly to record demos, and i love it.
But i'm still using the sound interface that came with my laptop, and well, it is ok to record demos, but i'm now looking for a usb sound interface (no firewire on that laptop) and my head hurts trying to find compatible hardware, with required specs and all...

That's why I need your help :)
I'd be really really thankful for any advice !!!
Even a simple "I'm using XXX, and it's working properly" would be great !

Alesis io2 express works fine. Cheap and cheerful. Noise if the gain is above 2/3 up, so needs a decent signal.

The great thing about a usb interface is that, combined with a live disk, you can work on nearly any adequate computer.

On fedruary 26th Arturia will be shipping its new Audiofuse device, said to be Linux compatible. Just wait the first tests on dedicated sites .

Focusrite Scarlett 2I2 is good also.

Komplete Audio KA6 - works beautifully for me. Class 2 compliant so Plug 'n Play on a wide range of computers :)

Perfect ! KA6, Scarlet 2i2, or even Audiobox 1818, those were already on my list. Now the choice will depend on the money I have next month ;)

Thank you again :)

Hey.
I'm using the new MOTU ultralite AVB. It works right out of the box, and the beautiful thing about it is, that you can access all the internal dsp functions (routing, mixing, effects, etc) from a browser. (provided the box is connected to your network).
Initially I did have some trouble making it work with my most recent wifi-router, but they gave me some very good customer support, and ended up exchanging my unit with a new one.
My only gripe with it is that it doesn't have a rca spdif in/out and dedicated word clock in/out.

Regards
Anders

Hi there.
If you still thinking.

I was using quite a few interfaces so far:
- NI Komplete Audio 6 : works well, but for some reason is much heavier on CPU than Presonus solutions (on 96kHz).
- Presonus Audiobox - works like a charm
- Presonus Audiobox 22vsl - same, works excellent (but I didn't even try bundled DSP effects)
- Just got a brand new Alesis Core 1 to capture my guitar. Not really a traditional soundcard (doesn't have any output except phones) but this tiny thing works great so far.

Good Lord! how were you driving it?
It's audio class 2 compliant. It should run exactly the same as any other compliant module. It would be seen by the default driver.
You do know it's actually a 6 channel device I trust. I've no idea what the Presonus is.

I re-open this post, for the sake of completeness :
Now, I've got a Presonus Audiobox 1818VSL, and CANNOT get it to work (xruns, clicks and cracks, etc...)
I've posted the details in another thread : viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7543&start=15#p70366

I'll probably update this post again when/if I find a solution, but right now it is impossible for me to use this interface...
