thanks falktx i'll let you know if any probs.
and yes, i know what i'm doing aside from that, staying on lts is a pita if you have a system that's used for much other than music (which kxstudio keeps nicely up to date) since so many apps end up in hoplessly outdated versions, plus support for newer systems often improves with newer kernels. 14.04 is a particular pita in this respect as even when it came out it was with an already quite outdated kernel.
of course those following debian testing don't have these problems as it rolls.

Re: *buntu 14.10 - kxstudio repository support
I was thinking up upgrading too because the kernel has some problems with usb on my new pc. I've test the mainline kernel and 3.17 seems to cure this problem.
I tried installing the kernel from 14.10 but that gave me problems installing the nvidia module cause it complained about a gcc mismatch.
I know how to install the nvidia kernel module using a newer gcc version (kernel is compiled with old gcc, system has newer gcc installed) but the 14.10 kernel is compiled with a newer gcc than installed on 14.04.
I didn't even try upgrading gcc to match the gcc used to compile the 14.10 kernel; I got scared.
