No sound in Firefox

Post by IIIIIII »

Hey, I just got the distro and I am trying it out before installing.

I can't seem to get the sound working in browser. I am using a SoundBlaster PCI audio sound card.
When I right click KMix and go to Audio setup, and hit "test" on CA0106 which is my soundcard, I get the piano music.
However, there is no sound in browser. I even tried switching youtube to html5.

The other thing I tried doing was going to Cadence->Configure->Driver and changing the device to hw:CA0106 and output to hw:CA0106.
Still no sound.

Run alsamixer from a terminal window. Make sure none of the pertinent faders have the letters MM under them (indicating "muted"). If so, press your "m" key.

what about pulseaudio module jack.

pulse audio needs to be either fixed to work properly without headaches or sent to the bad fire

I had this problem a few months ago. Turned out I'd accidentally installed pulseaudio, as a dependency of something. Didn't notice. Sometime later Pulse auto-launched, with output to my unused integrated soundcard. Didn't notice. Later still, I upgraded browsers and Flash, restarted browsers, and they connected to pulseaudio... no sound! "Oh noes, Flash upgrade broke audio! o_O" ...days go by... "I'm not running pulseaudio... right? ps axu |grep pulse ..."

Hello all and everyone,

that's an old thread, but I stumbled here because there's again no more sound in firefox, so maybe someone might do the same and find the answer :

this time it is seems that's an update of firefox : from firefox's march (2017) update, pulseaudio has become a hard dependency, no way to use ALSA again.

I have found this for those who have trouble installing pulseaudio :
https://gofloss.wordpress.com/2017/08/1 ... nd-others/

but IMO the only way to be at peace with pa is to have it NOT installed....

so for me, no acceptable solution yet :(

Why, what's your problem with it? It's quite easy to have it installed and running without even noticing it is there.

I had a lot of problems with jack while pa was running, maybe two years ago. Finally i got rid of pa and everything is fine since then.
Maybe I could reinstall it now and it may work properly, but I remember the nightmare :D
