Festige - VST's dont seem to work

Post by bazsound »

Just a quick question. As ive only tried a few free windows VST's and i know that windows VST's are generaly considered to be lucky to work at all and then still not work correctly.

But from the plugins i have tried the gui meters on all them do not function. As if its not getting audio, however there is audio passing through the plugins.

Also the controls really didnt seem to do much to the sound .

|I take it this is just the unpredictable nature of trying to run windows VST's in linux

Over the years, various festige/wine combos seemed to run about 7 out of ten
non-dongled vsts. Reaper/wine combos were about 9.3 out of ten,
dssi-vst about 4 out of ten.

With Reaper, you should be able to use almost all Native Instruments, IK Multimedia,
U-he, H.G. Fortune, AlgoMusic, Ugo, DiscoDSP, Wusik, Camel, and Cakewalk,
as well as many solo/small-shop developers products. Vst's made using SynthMaker often have
gui issues. Synthedit instruments mainly just work. The legendary Synth1 works,
with it's massive collection of soundbanks.

I don't have the big-name commercial daws, so have not tested their
bundled plugins. Cakewalk Rapture and Z3ta were recent Magzineware,
and are powerhouse instruments, that compliment the linux instruments well.

There is a new vst-bridge getting lots of work, I think it's called
Air-wave. Bitwig users are testing it with some happy results.
Worth checking out, for the long run.
Cheers
