Error in Synaptic W: Waited for dpkg --assert-multi-arch but

Post by luster »

I've been seeing this error reported at the last line when updating via Synaptic:

Code: Select all

W: Waited for dpkg --assert-multi-arch but it wasn't there - dpkgGo (10: No child processes)
I have KXStudio installed from the DVD. 64bit. The output of command uname -a:

Code: Select all

Linux [my_machine] 3.2.0-40-lowlatency #43-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT Wed Apr 3 18:26:22 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I wish to install the 3.8 kernel but think I may need to clear this warning/error first.

I did run

sudo apt-get update

and

sudo apt-get upgrade

but it made no difference.

I do not recall exactly when this error started to appear--I just noticed it one day--but I think this error began appearing sometime after I used Synaptic to *try* to install the realtime kernel [but it did not appear to install].
I am thinking that I may need to uninstall the realtime kernel that is not installed. Or something like that...

Thanks for any clues on where to begin to figure this out.

Guilty: I have had this error for ages and didn't report it yet. Figured it was just me.

Are you running the 3.8 kernel?
If so, how did you install it? I ask because I'm not seeing anything other than the KXStudio 2.4 kernels in Synaptic.

I thought KXStudio kernel upgrades came automatically. Maybe that changed? Maybe I am imagining that it was automatic earlier? I know with this installation from the DVD, I need to run Synaptic, rather than "update manager".

$ uname -r
3.2.0-40-lowlatency

I'm not using 3.8 yet because it has not been automatically updated.
