Good working live 4 out usb soundcard for KXStudio?

Pretty much as the subject says.

I'd like to set up a KXStudio laptop for live keyboard playing. I'll be using VSTs and samplers, one or 2 usb keyboards, and I'd like to have a couple of independent stereo outputs to send to the mixer.

Can anybody suggest me a good external usb soundcard for the task. Where "good" means that it works straight from the box and has at least 4 outs. If it also has 4 ins, the better.

Tnx.

Here is a thread on the Focusrite offering.

I own the 2i2 with 2 in 2 out and "out of the box" would describe its workings well.

I own it and can vouch for it. Only downside: it is only 16-bit in the 4-in 4-out mode, but you can use the same interface in 2-in-2-out mode and get 24-bit, and the thing is really affordable and has all the features you need.

Thank you all very much for the nice answers!!!

The Focusrite Scarletts seem very nice

I could get my hands on a used 6i8, which if I'm correct has got 4 anolg ins and 4 analog out (jack connectors, which is not bad in a live environment) at the same price of a new 2i4.

Do you think it should work?

And, just maybe, can anybody suggest a good usb card with more ins and outs, say 6/6 or more?

Thank again!!!

Hi!

I'm using M-Audio Fast Track Ultra, which is a very nice 8/8 USB2 card. 6/6 are normal instrument plugs, and last I/O pair is S/PDIF. I'm not sure if that works, but at least those plug jacks work without problems. First four inputs can act also as mic inputs, and thing has two separate stereo outputs for headphones. Midi I/O is involved as well.

The only problem with Linux are wrong default settings. They are quite easy to fix with alsamixer. Here are my experiences with it: http://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php ... 072#p25072
