I don't think requesting this within KXStudio makes sense since we already have kdenlive. kden and openshot are definitely redundant, and while openshot may be preferred by some, kden is wonderful and better integrated with KDE. Given an easy openshot PPA, definitely there's no need for a special KXStudio package.

But incidentally (let's please not go off topic too much), I'm curious why you want openshot over kdenlive…

Muon Software Center (when it is ready)

Post by wolftune »

falkTX,

Major request, which will make a big difference for newbies:
Muon suite 2.0 when it is ready (or even if you think it is ready enough)

Synaptic works for installing and updating, but so does command-line. For newbies, a nice GUI way to actually browse for programs is valuable. Muon is the best integrated overall option, and the 2.0 update just reached beta within the last couple weeks, see: http://projects.kde.org/projects/extrag ... admin/muon

I also appreciate that it has a separate update app and a way to automatically check for updates.

The other system I think is alright is Mint Software Center, which you could possibly take from the Mint folks, although I think Muon is probably the better option. Either of these offer the same overall set of features without the nonsense and bulk of the Ubuntu Software Center.

Cheers

Luzstudio looks so good we may have a new flagship Linux AV app out of nowhere! I can't wait to try that and impro-visor sounds like a very impressive and useful app too. Linux is really starting to b(l)oom now!

Unless the next kxstudio ISO is based upon 13.04 or later AND Ubuntu has rid of the need for such a tool, I'd like to see boot repair included with the next KX studio. I don't understand why its not included on all Ubuntu CDs now as standard as you need to boot Ubuntu Security after installing a Ubuntu distro on a UEFI machine thats dual booting with Windows 7/8 in order to fix grub for EFI. At least thats the case on my work machine which doesn't let me boot off CD/DVD/USB in EFI mode and I nearly always have to or want to use custom partitioning.

Have you got a UEFI machine F?

I work often with Pure Data, i installed it from ubuntu repository.
In KXStudio lucid 64 PD works quite well (version 0.42...), In KXStudio precise 32 PD work with some issue (version 0.43.0-4, see topic: test 12.04.1 with FA-66 firewire and Pure Data ), i think that PD was in Klaudia launcher for a period...
Yesterday i make a fresh install of KXStudio from new dvd iso. I installed PD from MUON and when start, it crash Cadence.
I would be very happy if will be a version of PD in KX repo!

Thanks! Alessandro
I'd appreciate if not just pd but pd-extended were in the repositories. It has a lot more modules and is a tad more friendly.

Great to hear you've packaged Luz now - I hope to try that this weekend if not before. Anyone tried Luz already?

Ubuntu has supported UEFI in some form since 11.04 IIRC and in 12.04 there should be no issues except if your machine runs Win8 w/ secureboot as this issue has only very recently been resolved so secureboot support may make it into 13.04. If you want to boot secureboot Linux without lots of hassle right now you've basically just got to disable it.

I have converted a 'legacy' install of KX 12.04.1 to boot with grub-efi using boot-repair but for some reason I could not get the network working properly although my adapter is supported and internet also works fine when I run it off the DVD, just not after install. It'll be some quirk with the firewall at work I bet although I've not sussed it yet. I've done the same with Mint 14 KDE and net works fine both live and after install. I tried re-installing KX but had the same issue.

They used to let me just run Linux at my work but recently I got told I had to have Windows installed to and run that during the working day - meh! I don't own a UEFI machine myself and I'd disable it if I could as you've got to have an extra 100MB+ fat32 partition for EFI which just makes OS installation and management trickier and more prone to failure, what with its lack of maturity compared to good ol' legacy BIOS' but it doesn't seem my machine lets me disable UEFI.

Sadly, Windows and dual-boot is still prevalent and we're only going to see more of EFI so, unless you patch better EFI support into the 12.04.2 installer, it'd be very useful if you include boot-repair on the install DVD. There's no need to have it get installed to HD with the other packages though.

Thanks F!

Ok. Sounds like Minaton isn't necessary then.

Were you able to add the newer version of Mx44? I'd love to see the additional features.. especially if it allows patches to be saved externally. There's nothing like being able to share patches! :D

PD-extended instead of PD! (sorry if the post is non properly in topic, but i am very happy...)

I installed PD-extended from PD repos on kxstudio 12.04.1 64bit, it finally work!
I think the little problem is setting PD to work with jack the first time start it (default pd is setting for ALSA).
I have done:
-set alsa audio with bridge type "alsa-->jack plugin" in cadence
-start pd-extended, set "jack" in MEDIA, put the in/out that i wont (for me 4-4), set "alsa-midi" for midi port.
-save PD "media" window.
-close PD
-restart cadence with alsa audio bridge "alsa->loop->jack"
-restart PD
...Claudia recognize correctly the PD's audio/midi port! The windows's patch are now withe and all works...(for now...)

May Falk insert PD-extended in KXstudio repo?

(Thanks to tatch!)

OMG YUM! Reminds me of my k5000 :)

What did you mean though, about it being 'Fixed' ?

Anyway, I say +1000000 to this one.

I mean that I could compile it from source without errors, but never could get any sound from it.

I am pretty good with additive synths, I'll give it a try....

Any tricks to compiling it?
