Re: Package requests here! (New and updates)
Will there be a debian wheezy compatible zynaddsubfx-git?
The one in the repos now depends on libstdc++6 >=4.8.1 and wheezy only has version 4.7.2.
thanks!

Re: Package requests here! (New and updates)
FalkTX, would you be kind enough to consider packaging this: http://isse.sourceforge.net/
It has the ability to extract specific audio from a file, e.g. the bass part from a track with drums and bass.
thanks
Guy

Hi FalkTX,
I've just noticed that MuseScore 2.0.1 has been released. Unfortunately, I can't find any release notes.

Re: Package requests here! (New and updates)
Is there no way to simply make it so that users of systems older than Jessie / 14.04 stop getting updates? Obviously, we don't want to push updates on them that will break things, but it seems okay to stop giving them updates. If they want the latest stuff, they can move to a newer system…

Sounds like a sensible plan (Jessie user)

I don't think there's any point in using <14.04 in 2015.
Is there a way to tell every <14.04 user the he/she won't receive updates anymore?

This seems logical, one configures a baseline system which has all the required packages & functionality and then test it to confirm stability and then stick with it for the forseeable future. Any update and change introduces potential risk and issues.falkTX wrote: I was talking to some people today, and they mentioned a few users don't actually update software once they start producing music (less risks).

I thought that the main reason to stick to 14.04 was that it's a LTS.
So your not forced to upgrade every 9 months, if you decided to do so.

Re: Package requests here! (New and updates)
One needs to differentiate between the OS version & KX package updates.linux-lover wrote:I thought that the main reason to stick to 14.04 was that it's a LTS.

So 14.04 is a Linux distro version, it is subject to its own update regime via Ubuntu. It's distinct from for example older versions of Ubuntu so maintaining a KXStudio environment which works and acts the same across different OS generations becomes increasingly difficult. 14.04 is subject to its own updates even if the OS release itself isn't necessarily obsolete after a short time. LTS just means that the OS will be supported for the forseeable future with updates, as opposed to non-LTS releases which are only supported for short windows which then necessitates an "upgrade" to the next short lifespan OS.
Kxstudio in itself is subject to numerous updates and changes. Some people choose to update to a certain level and freeze it at that point because subsequent OS or KX updates may introduce unexpected problems or behaviour which differs from what they've grown accustomed to.
One way or the other updates & upgrades are always taking place if your system is kept online..... so in some cases it makes sense to update it to a certain point, then freeze it and keep it away from Internet updates.

The danger in this is if they connect to the net and do not get the security updates. If the system is just offline for music it doesn't matter.asbak wrote:This seems logical, one configures a baseline system which has all the required packages & functionality and then test it to confirm stability and then stick with it for the forseeable future. Can't they get security updates from ubuntu since its a derivative? I don't know, but thats what I thought.English Guy wrote:asbak wrote:

Re: Package requests here! (New and updates)
This isn't a concern about KXStudio not providing them updates. The decision for KXStudio moving forward is fine. It's just a commentary about those people who say that once they have their music stuff working they stop updating.ssj71 wrote:Can't they get security updates from ubuntu since its a derivative?
