Re: Package requests here! (New and updates)
Sounds like what it says - your /etc/apt/sources.list (maybe combined with one of the files in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*) has two entries for medibuntu. Did you add the repo in manually? It was already therebriandc wrote:Code: Select all

Re: Package requests here! (New and updates)
@Todd: No, I don't remember adding it manually... but then again, maybe I did and just don't remember... it's possible!
@falkTX: thanks for the updates!
@falkTX and wolftune: there's an app called "scala" that appears to do microtuning, and it should also work with amSynth (in that selector in the file dropdown menu about keyboard setups). Do you guys know about it/use it? I see it can also be used as a sequencer.. (maybe it's already in the repos and I just never saw it or overlooked it?)

Re: Package requests here! (New and updates)
Brian, I am especially interested in scala. It has a long robust history. I am actually most interested in getting Rationale to function: https://sourceforge.net/projects/rationale/ (yes that's sort of a packaging request, but I think there may be more involved to make this function effectively than just packaging it; it's a C-sound thing and setting up the sound out and otherwise integrating, well, not sure what's involved, I've never used C-sound. I want to see essentially this program working as simply as a normal JACK sequencer, that's my dream anyway.
But I have been meaning to try Scala. I used several microtonal programs on my Mac, all of which used scala file's as a format option. I haven't really fleshed out my dreams for more flexible tuning and rhythm in KXStudio, but these things are definitely my goal. I am not so dogmatic now, but I was once strongly anti-equal-temperament and I am more well-studied on the subject than all but the most obsessive tuning theory folks.

Interesting! I haven't explored alternative tunings much, although I understand what they are. I'd love to hear your experiences with them. Maybe a PM if you have time?wolftune wrote:Brian, I am especially interested in scala. It has a long robust history. Re: Package requests here! (New and updates)
Sorry. I most surely do not have time, I have too many higher priorities. I don't want to hijack this thread, so please consider this a reinforcement of the request for figuring out Scala and Rationale (but not necessarily simply packaging, I don't know what's involved in making them work best, that discussion might be partly on-topic).briandc wrote:Interesting! The best intro to the nature of tuning is my own video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APtJsaPxNgo
from that foundation, there's more than enough out there to completely overwhelm you. Put simply though: pitch is a continuum, and the non-arbitrary influences on how we categorize are: psychology/memory, acoustics, harmonics, and arbitrary cultural developments. All the music teaching and tools and software that focuses on the 12-note system as though it is all that exists is obnoxious. That's all I'll say for now, and please let the thread go back to package request issues.
Cheers

Sorry for adding to the list one at a time - Avidemux.
Because Ubuntu Studio 12.04 has naught but the old version? =(wolftune wrote:That's already in the main regular repos. Why do you want KXStudio to do anything extra with it?TheSafePlaces wrote:GNU Solfege, please, Mr. F

Re: Package requests here! (New and updates)
But we have kdenlive already, curious: why also Avidemux? (I've never tried it, does it have anything worthwhile compared to kdenlive?) and more additionally, why bother getting KXStudio to include it rather than just getting from some other source?TheSafePlaces wrote:Sorry for adding to the list one at a time - Avidemux.
Is the "old" version the 3.20.3? That's what I have installed. I see the latest stable is 3.20.8, but this is low point release, and seems to be mostly translation updates. I see 3.21 is out in the unstable dev release, but I doubt that's what you were asking for.Because Ubuntu Studio 12.04 has naught but the old version? =(wolftune wrote:That's already in the main regular repos. Actually, hold off on the update, falk. There's a bug in the version I have now and it probably isn't fixed yet. I'll keep you updated..briandc wrote:@ wolftune: thanks for the link! I'll check it out for sure!

FalkTX,
It looks like Nick may have resolved the bug in amSynth... if you get a moment to update the package...
Thanks!

Re: Package requests here! (New and updates)
Spectrum 3D looks nifty and under ongoing development:
http://spectrum3d.sourceforge.net/
I don't know for sure if I'd use it a lot, but it seems worth packaging and testing
