Hey,
Thanx for that.
Any particular aspect we should aim our tests to ?

Think, it ain't illegal yet
And use Qrest, it won't hurt : http://www.qrest.org
Ubuntu 12.04 + full KXStudio on an HP Pavilion dv7-6c70ef
Usually make noise with a Warwick $$ 5 strings bass hooked to a zoom B9.1ut and an M-Audio FastTrack PRO

OK
I won't touch my working system, but will surely give that Live boot a try

to be clear, testing is for the live CD and not an installed system?

Re: Testing: KXStudio 12.04.1 ISO (pre-release)
Merry Xmas falktx, and thanks for the iso-present
Miku is welcome on my desktop
Yet here is what I have found so far:
Cadence can be stuck by jack driver settings which my hardware or jack seem uncapable of and gets inoperable, i.e.:
Cadence won`t react on clicking "configure" or "force restart" buttons any more once it has started jack with malicious parameters.
My environment: latest kxstudio live DVD image burnt on and booted from 16GB USB thumbdrive with 5GB persistent user space
in "Try without installation" mode. Latest updates applied via dist-upgrade. Hardware is a Core I7 notebook, clocked at 1.7GHz max.
with onboard Intel HDA audio device ALC269VB. Kernel 3.2.0-35-lowlatency i686.
Xrun-tests were made with yoshimi/Arpeggios/Sequence2 at full-keyboard glissando and resulted with 0 Xruns at jack driver settings 44100/256/2,
client-timeout=2000ms, at 5.8ms latency reported.
Step to reproduce:
I then tried to reduce latency from 5.8 to 2.9ms by tuning to 44100/128/2 via cadence and start jack, which lead to - invisible - jack failure like this:
Cadence then remains reporting jack as "Server status: stopped".
After a while a message says "Failed to start JACK, please check the logs for more information", leaving the first-time-user to guess where these logs are located.
Neither clicking "force restart" nor "configure" would lead the user to a functional reconfiguration.
The way I choose to make cadence operate again is to edit ~/.config/jack/config.xml by hand to 44100/256/2 again and send a kill -9 to jackdbus.
This is maybe hard to reproduce because the cadence failure depends a bit on the audio hardware. Please tell me if I should elaborate more.
I would appreciate some message like "Failed to start JACK, please check the log file at /home/$USER/.log/jack/jackdbus.log".
I hope this helps improving your great work a bit.
Cheers Robert

@totalchaos:
Hi!
Yes, cadence does work out of box ack.
But out-of-box meant 23ms latency here which is quite hearable and can be disturbing when recording via midi keyboard.
That is why I tried to tune the latency to the systems minimum. 5.8ms are quite tolerable.
But hda should do better I have been told. And so I encountered this issue.

@distrozapper
I know what you mean. i am using midi keyboard myself. With SSD and Debian Wheezy with Gnome3 and Linux 3.2rt i achieved latency (wait for it) 32fps / 1.2ms (rock solid performance on 64fps). But both Catia and Claudia (from Cadence suite) support hot buffer-size change and it works for me with no errors whatsoever. I am testing kxstudio from usb stick, so when the time comes and i install it on the SSD things can only get better (hopefully)
@FalkTX
What was tested: Both live session options (regular and memory), all included open source Synths, Plugin hosts, DAWs (except Qtractor and Rosegarden) with special attention on Cadence suite, media players, FL Studio 9 with wineasio (in and out),video production programs, Firefox, Kopete, Skype
What was not tested: Closed source staff, Qtractor, Rosegarden, Qsampler, XJadeo, Blender, Graphics programs, Programs not included on the ISO, Installation on disk
What works: Everything is working out of the box
What does not work:
1.Guitarix. I tried several versions with no success
2.Kdenlive is unusable
3.The only "problem" with Cadence is that Tweaks/Default Applications doesn't change anything
4.FL Studio doesn't create a start icon anywhere
Recommendations:
1. Conceder to include alternative desktop environment on LiveDVD. Like in Musix which is KDE by default, but it has LXDE, FluxBox and more DE configured and worked out of the box

Re: Testing: KXStudio 12.04.1 ISO (pre-release)
wow you replied so fast i didn't have the time to edit the original massage
I will be happy if you Include Petri-foo as part of KXStudio suite. It's really the first fully functional and working sound sampler for Linux
As for FL9 no it doesn't create an icon in wine/applications, but i installed it just to test wineasio and its integrity in the cadence suite.
Don't remove anything there is enough space until 4GBfalkTX wrote: There are surely things that I can remove...

Giada: Seems to be working, but it doesn't make a launcher icon
AriaMaestosa : The app starts but i can't see how to connect it to the system. On Catia only 'midi_out' appears. The sound defaults to alsa but when switching to jack and restart, nothing changes. That's bad because it seems to be a really interesting app. Maybe a few tips for the newbie, i don't know

Re: Testing: KXStudio 12.04.1 ISO (pre-release)
IT'S ALIVE
i connect it to zynadsubfx and it starts the magic
Like i said a newbie mistake. The app is Seq24 alike (Don't you dare considering the removal of seq24 for space reservation )
about the icons problems i was thinking about an app from AVLinux that makes custom icons for applications with an option to choose the proper category.
