Re: Loading Windows VSTs within Carla
I did all of those things, that's exactly the steps I took. Every single item you listed here is exactly what I did, phrase-for-phrase. There's no Windows VSTs listed even though I have the same .dll files in the same directories as used to work a long while back.falkTX wrote:Carla can now load win-vsts, yes.
You need the carla-git package since this is for the upcoming 2.x series and then actually install the plugin bridges.
To get everything (on a 64bit system) run this:The next time you open carla the "linux 32bit", "win 32" and "win 64" options will be enabled in the discovery-refresh dialog.Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install carla-git carla-bridge-linux32:i386 carla-bridge-win32 carla-bridge-win64
Make sure you set up the plugin paths correctly in the carla settings, then run the discovery-refresh with win32 or win64 enabled (you can uncheck 'native' to look only for windows bridges).
The refresh dialog should look like this:
I even double-checked by trying to install again, but it just said everything is already up to date.

Great! ThanksfalkTX wrote:ah, I see the issue.
One of the recent commits broke non-native bridges, fixing...
Next update should have this working again.

Re: Loading Windows VSTs within Carla
Are the Windows VST's working again? I haven't been able to get any to load with recent versions of Carla. One of the error messages was about a missing 32bit pkcs11 .so. This happened on a 64bit Linux Mint 17 (Ubuntu 14.04 basically) system. I could resolve the error by manually copying it over from a 32bit system but Windoze VST's still wouldn't load.
Also, current versions of Carla seem to be a bit unstable and crash even when running lv2 plugins (Obxd for example).
Is there perhaps a stable, older version of Carla and the Wine bridges around which can be installed manually and a way to avoid Carla updates whilst keeping the KXStudio repositories enabled?
The idea being that it perhaps makes more sense for KXStudio users to have a stable & working environment as opposed to an unstable testing environment.

Re: Loading Windows VSTs within Carla
Thanks falkTX
When I tried it on Saturday or yesterday (latest KXStudio updates, rt-wine from KXStudio repos) Windows VST's didn't seem to load at all, I'll try again tonight.
Update 20/10/2014
Tested on my LM 17 32bit system w. latest Carla updates
- Synth1 loads
- Superwave P8 loads
- SQ8L loads
- PG8X loads but puts massive load on CPU and xruns like crazy

- Kontakt fails
Didn't try on 64bit yet

Re: Loading Windows VSTs within Carla
For some reason after the latest bridge updates, I'm getting a stream of xruns and DSP jumping all over the place.

Re: Loading Windows VSTs within Carla
My wine arch is 32bit
I'm running Debian Jessie 64bit
The xruns happen on all windows vsts being run with carla-bridge
I have wine-rt, wine-rt-amd64, wine-rt-i386:i386 all 1:1.7.25-1~kxstudio1
carla-bridge-wine32:i386 and carla-bridge-wine64 both 1.9.5~git20141017 installed
I ran all winetricks, the corefonts one won't work for some reason but all the rest were there already, excepting maybe gdiplus, which I ran. Still no difference.

Try running Doze vst's in something like Savihost or Vsthost with WineASIO. Works for me.
Reaper is also said to work, haven't tried it myself.

So I must be the only one with problems? If this is the case, is there any information I can provide that would help me figure out what's going on with my system?

Re: Loading Windows VSTs within Carla
Reaper/wineasio has the best linux windows vst compatability. Probably 90% of 32 bit non-dongled vstsasbak wrote:Try running Doze vst's in something like Savihost or Vsthost with WineASIO. Works for me.

will run in linux-Reaper. There are a few whose installers may fail, that can still be sneaker-netted
after being installed in your windows partition. If a windows plugin installer appears to stop, move it's window,
sometimes a requestor pop-up, pops behind, by mistake. Some trouble-free favorite synths:
Rapture
Z3ta+ 1.5
Synth1
TyrellN6
Podolski
ZebraCM
Rez2

Re: Loading Windows VSTs within Carla
So I started with a fresh 32 bit wine prefix. Also, corefonts script still wont run. Everything else does fine though.
Unfortunately I'm still having the same exact problem.
