Remote control via Android

Post by steevc »

Is anyone using a Android device to control their DAW or other software? I looked at fingerplay a while back

http://thesundancekid.net/blog/fingerplay-midi/

I think I got it working with the instructions here, but haven't used it since

http://wootangent.net/2010/08/fingerpla ... r-android/

It looks like it could be useful. What I would like is a set of transport controls for when I'm standing away from the PC, e.g. to record vocals or guitar. Creating custom screens in fingerplay looked a bit tricky.

Today I read about Control

http://charlie-roberts.com/Control/

I've not tried it yet. With a tablet you could do all sorts of things that are tricky with keyboard and mouse.

I don't know if 2-way communication is possible with such apps. That could open all sorts of possibilities.

As I said in the Piano app post, I like wireless mixer. Does a pretty good job of the basics, and working on all platforms that support java and DAWs that support MMC.

I'll have to check out those apps once I manage to upgrade my phone. Stuck on 1.6 for now and a lot of newer apps don't support that. Just haven't got around to trying the upgrade yet.

I didn't know anyone still had a phone with "donut". Don't know what I'd do without gingerbread on my evo!

Sorry for the late reply. I haven't had much time for audio work in a few months. I checked out that Ardour controller, it's actually called Ardroid. Works ok.

Happy Holidays!

There is a MIDI-networkserver for Nintendo DS, that can connect Android-Controllers to Linux too:

These 2 work just great for me with this:

I had but little luck with OSC, wich is available in many interesting Android-apps.
Only the experimental Ardroid-Controller works for me.

AFAIKS Ingen is the only all-purpose system with LV2-support that supports it.
But Ingen does not work and cannot be installed under KXStudio as of now.
