It is a "real" android device, so you can run everything you want. We're using it for auto tests of our mobile clients here at work...

I followed your link but couldn't find the VM's only the ISO's, are you using a particular ISO to create a Virtualbox VM?

I used android-x86-3.2-RC2-eeepc.iso when I set those virtual machines up. When running the ISO you can select to install to disk...

I have been messing with TouchDAW and a really old app called FingerPlay on my Android phones/tablet and my Ubuntu Studio setup. (As a controller for mainly Seq24, though I've been using it with Zynaddsubfx and Sooperlooper for fun as well) TouchDAW sort of does the job, but it's functionality is very linear; in the sense that making your own templates for special purposes is out of the question, though it works very well, and FingerPlay just doesn't have any "pizazz" as far as having a good interface; you know, TouchOSC has lots of different style knobs, buttons, and faders, and things are color-coded, which in that kind of performance enviorment is absolutely imperative.

This app http://charlie-roberts.com/Control/ seems like it has alot of potential to be a very good competitor for the Touch OSC/Ableton Live route; but it has no support for the (very) few wifi to midi drivers available for Linux. I had actually e-mailed the developer about adding support (he even says on his site "e-mail me if you know anything about Linux wifi drivers") for Linux, but to no avail. In any case that may or may not be a good starting point as I believe that app is open source as well.

(Qmidinet and DSMIDIWIFI both work pretty good on my system as well, btw.)

That being said; if you were to make/modify an app to work with Linux that really allowed what a touchscreen midi interface to shine (total control of controller widget layout and placement, as well as parameters, a la the JazzMutant Lemur) I would love you forever.

Just bought TouchDAW tonight, and have been playing a little with Wireless Mixer, which is also becoming very good for free. I'm going to get both fully setup in the next few days and will report back.

I just found out about Ardroid that is specifically for controlling Ardour from an Android device. It's been around for over a year
