Setting up your own APT repository

Post by studio32 »

If you want to have your own repo which is accessible to others, you need a webpage isn't it? Is there a other way to get a place for it on the internet without having to have my own website?

If you're targeting Ubuntu, I believe you can host your packages at launchpad and have them accessable as an APT repository, see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas .

If not, indeed you need some other website to host them on. Not sure if there are such repositories generally available - if not, and there's interest, perhaps we could set one up for linuxmusicians.

Edit: oh, seems launchpad even has a space for debian ppa's: https://launchpad.net/debian/+ppas

edit: mmh it's only for Ubuntu I guess:
Personal Package Archives (PPA) allow you to upload Ubuntu source packages to be built and published as an apt repository by Launchpad. You can find out more about PPAs and how to use them in our help page.

Debian does not have any registered PPA.
