So I am new to Linux, and a novice at recording.
I was wondering what general advice you would have.
Making Beats
Is there anything like sonyAcid or Garageband, and would you suggest using it?
Which Apps to record vocals with (spec. plugins)
Mastering
ect...
I personally am making beats, and then recording vocals, but am interested in hearing what your general suggestions would be for setting up shop, even if you make different music, thanks.

Re: Getting Started
Ok so like you said @slowpick, YouTube helps alot
It seems like the first step would be the following:
Tutorial: Realtime (RT) Audio on Linux: The Basics (for Laymen)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2gPqH6k ... re=related
The Second Bieng:
Tutorial: JACK Audio Server: Basic Explanation, Install, and Setup
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMz6fDGBnA4
<<Warning>> People have been saying QJackCTL doesn't work well in Ubuntu 11.10, I use an interface with mine, but can't seem to get it to work when I am not using an interface, this could just be a user error.
Also something I personaly didn't notice at first, it may be obvious to everyone else, is that in QJack there is a side arrow next to platform, input, and output, that you can click to show more options.
Also, I found this article gave a nice overview of some Apps related to Jack
Friends Of JACK

Ya'll probably already knew all this, but hey, hopefully it will somebody.
Thanks for all the awesome threads.

Re: Getting Started
I know it's mentioned above, but Hydrogen is a very powerful drum sequencer, would really recommend it.

Re: Getting Started
I vote for KXStudio repositories http://kxstudio.sourceforge.net/
instead of installing all that stuff on your own and using qjackctl
KXStudio has its own section here and gives you a whole set up with a good portion of all the best tools all set. There's lots of different tools for different purposes. It can get a bit confusing.
Good luck, and welcome!
