Here's my submission:

https://soundcloud.com/patchlore/synthwave

...and here's the code that made it ;)

https://git.sr.ht/~pbatch/gest/tree/mas ... thwave.lil

In a nutshell:

Drums are mostly synthesized the usual way: sines, noises, and exponential envelopes. The snare is gated with a ported version of Verbity from Air Windows.

Bass is a 3osc super saw wavetable oscillator with a dab of hard sync modulation, fed through some chorus.

The lead is using phase distortion synthesis, which a type of wavetable synthesis, most commonly associated with the Casio CZ synths from the 80s. There's also a fair bit of reverb and delay dumped on the lead too.

And that's about it.

All of the DSP code is open source in my sndkit and gest projects! If you know how to compile software, you should be able to compile and render this entire track on your computer!

Here's my effort: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ysl77874aa0dn ... a.ogg?dl=0
Project files are here - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/fll16nez8c42 ... LBWma?dl=0

Written in Musescore, rendered in Qtractor. I created every sound in Odin2 using wavetable osc (because I don't have the patience to learn more than one new thing this month). The only effect I used was some compression and normalisation of the final wav in Audacity.

Until i resolve this problem i'm just gonna use my first laptop which has Winows on it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
good luck everyone.
Try openSUSE, the installer is very solid :D

Well, the core DSP components are written in C. I used a tiny TCL-like language called LIL on top of that to build up the track: http://runtimeterror.com/tech/lil/. I chose it because the code base is a fraction of the size of Lua (and less complex too), and has just enough functionality to get things done without getting too carried away. Also, less parentheses (as much as I love the elegance and expressiveness of LISPy languages and enjoy using them, they are very difficult to without a specialized text editor.)

It's all a part of my sndkit and gest projects:

Here is my contribution for LMC#12. It is fun as always :D

Flac can be downloaded from https://soundcloud.com/sg75_2/chunksize-mismatch, ogg from https://open.audio/library/tracks/113680/.

It is made with Ardour and Vitalium*17 as the only synth.
All patches are made from scratch besides the TomTom which was kindly provided by fellow contestant @MyLoFy.

Lotsa AirWindows plugins: ToTape5, ADClip7, Tube2, Wider, Crystal, Bassdrive, Verbity
Lotsa LSP plugins: LSP Parametric Equalizer, LSP Compressor Stereo, LSP Sidechain Compressor Stereo, LSP Sidechain Gate Stereo
Misc: Luftikus, Calf Deesser, Calf Compressor (Peak detection mode), Dragonfly Plate Reverb, Dragonfly Room Reverb, x42-dpl
Meters: Simple Scope, LUFS Meter, DR-14, Calf Analyzer

Cheers,

My entry for the LMC#12:
I used Ardour7 because I wanted to rebase the tracker interface branch onto the now merged-to-master nutempo branch. I do not recommend to use Ardour7 at this stage, it's not user friendly ready (automations breaking for no reason, midi content spontaneously disappearing, etc). However it has solved most timing issues, not all yet, but it's surely coming. The tracker interface isn't ready either, still crashing here and there.

The song lacks a proper ending and just fades out (I have composed one but no time to track). Hope you like it (my wife gave me the thumbs up this time, so it means it must be good). Please provide feedback, positive to raise my dopamine, negative to raise my cortisol and help me to improve the song.

One last word, you might need to be logged into https://chat.unfa.xyz so the download link works.

Well, I didn't think I would be able to get a submission done in time, but I was able to barely do it! Here's my submission, titled "Waving Goodbye"!
Image

FLAC Version: https://audius.co/1108/waving-goodbye
MP3 Version: https://open.audio/library/tracks/113719/

This track was made in Ardour 6.9 and all instruments (except for the vocals, of course) are synthesized in Vitalium. Lots of Calf, LSP, Guitarix, and Airwindows effects were used (Vocoder is Tal-Vocoder-II). I haven't processed the vocals to my liking, but I'm running out of time so I just decided to release this song as it is. Feel free to give me any feedback you have!
