Hello good people, here's my entry:

nyx eles - Serious Robot Business
https://soundcloud.com/nyxeles/serious-robot-business

I made all of this in Ardour, using only the original audio file and Drops, with a Calf Compressor on pretty much every track :)
Other plugins used were: Calf Limiter, EQ10Q, TAL Reverb III, Rubber Band Pitch Shifter, and good old Bitrot Tapestop.
I would have liked to work on it some more tomorrow but I'll try to get something done for Ludum Dare instead!

Let me know if anyone wants to have a look at my Ardour session and I'll upload it. All material and the finished track are CC BY-SA.
Track download as an OGG file is available here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1p3urOO ... 4yMXHyE-IK
FLAC can be downloaded from the soundcloud entry.

Here is my submission:

sg75 - Cut'N'Drops
https://soundcloud.com/sg75_2/cutndrops

Have fun!

It is made with Ardour and 3 instances of Ninjas2 and 7 instances of Drops. Drops is fun :D
Thx @rghvdberg!
It uses many ACE compressors, some ACE delays and EQ10Q on every track.

I have underestimated the learning curve and the time needed to work out everything from just one sample and have yet only managed to explore a small portion of DROP's features, but I like that all parameters can be automated. Awesome!
I have some stability problem though. Unfortunately, some instances of Drops lost its sample after a crash, which made me kind of nervous, because my exports from @unfa's sample have short generic names like: drrrr.wav, dffff.wav, dohdah.wav, elephant.wav, 4hats.wav etc. so that I had trouble to assign the correct samples to the broken instances again.

flac can be downloaded here: https://sonnengesicht.de/sg75%20-%20Cut'N'Drops.flac
ogg can be downloaded here: https://sonnengesicht.de/sg75%20-%20Cut'N'Drops.ogg

Ok, here is my homework, sprry for the 20 mins late :

https://soundcloud.com/user-301824472/d ... uinsuccess

So it was more hard than excpected on my side!

This is the 3rd project/attempt i made, started this 3 days ago, rushed it in 3 hours,

i DidRipOffPenguinSuccess , this is my kind of double tribute to the infamous @rghvdberg , sorry if i kind of broke your polka man

This project was made on Zrythm DAW using 6 DROPS instances and 3 ninjas2 instances .
Each track has a EQ6q on it drums have x42 Compressor + 2 verbity on main lead tracks and , 1 DragonFly Early on the drumsnare and 1 CALF vintage delay used, that's all.

PS : Not that many tracks this month, where are you friends ?

Hi,

Here is my entry:

https://archive.org/details/phone-jam

EDIT: additional info
Ardour // 5x drops, 6x ninjas2 // effect plugins: Calf, Dragonfly reverb, x42-autotune
Worked on mostly this afternoon/evening, quite rushed, not really polished. Indeed harder than expected.
In case it isn't clear: my intention was for this song to tell a 'story' in which unfa calls me on the phone to jam together :)

The challenge went kinda wrong for me. I stuck the file into shuriken to cut it up. It nuked the GUI but I managed to blindly slice it.... into 8252 files. Anyway for an embarrassingly long time I thought there was some kind of problem with the plugin, until I realised the sound was so incredibly quiet, I could barely hear it. I finally figured it was the samples and ran a batch job in Audacity to normalise higher all 8252 files. It was better but still wasn't enough. I then lost patience with the process. 8)

Drops is a cool plugin though, I like how easy it is to trim and zoom in and out of the sample. I'd like to be able to drag and drops (b'dum tssh) files into it though. That file menu is hmmm.

And here's my votes!
Since there's very few tracks I just ended up using the full range of votes to make the rating differences more noticeable.
Lots of impressive stuff that I have no idea how it was even made :D
Have a lovely day my good friends.

|------------+-------------------------+-------|
| a.very | Phone Jam | 4 | Cool tune, too quiet bass, drums, too loud organ and "ba ba bow" part
|------------+-------------------------+-------|
| LAM | Hangover Makeover | 5 | Great job. That beat is the last thing I'd want with a hangover though.
|------------+-------------------------+-------|
| MyLoFy | Drop With Drops | 5 | Really good.
|------------+-------------------------+-------|
| nyx eles | Serious Robot Business | 5 | Some of the higher pitched samples were a little sharp, nit picking though, it was really good.
|------------+-------------------------+-------|
| SahaaThyva | DidRippOfPenguinSuccess | 3 | The beat is a bit much but i just listened to the original, so I see where you were coming from :)
|------------+-------------------------+-------|
| sg75 | Cut'N'Drops | 4 | The ba ba ba was maybe a bit overused and the bass came in a bit too late imo. Really liked the lead, the rhythms and the overall vibe.

A pity we are so few this time, it was hard, but at the end we have great tracks. :D

My votes are high, all well deserved, IMO. 8)

|------------+-------------------------+-------|
| SahaaThyva | DidRippOfPenguinSuccess | 4 | This is a very unexpected remix, timing of some drums is not great but it contributes to the groove :D

Great work, great challenge :!:

I was a bit overwhelmed with the quite long sample (which spots to pick) and brand new and very cool DROPS plugin and the just one sample constraint, but - as always - learned a lot, THX :D

Code: Select all

|------------+-------------------------+-------|
| Artist | Track | Score |
|------------+-------------------------+-------|
| a.very | Phone Jam | 3 | I like the hard panned beat boxing, which creates a cool and quite unique stereo field. Nice instruments and great interplay/dialog. Groovy, but the production/mix could be a bit more polished.
|------------+-------------------------+-------|
| LAM | Hangover Makeover | 4 | Hypnotic bassline, makes wanna play along. Perhaps a tiny bit more brightness in some sonic variations of that bass would be even a bit nicer. This one is definitely a bass face elicitor (TM). Great scale again! Song is over but I am still "after" nodding!
|------------+-------------------------+-------|
| MyLoFy | Drop With Drops | 5 | The contrast between the laid back cord progressing and THAT DROP is just awesome and amazing. Tasty and high quality production as always. The transitions are so good, my favorite is at 1:53.
|------------+-------------------------+-------|
| nyx eles | Serious Robot Business | 3 | Feel good sampling in in first 1/3, then the sound at 0:39 hit so hard! Cool. The "chord" section does not connect that well to the rest, although I especially like the ending of it.
|------------+-------------------------+-------|
| SahaaThyva | DidRippOfPenguinSuccess | 3 | I know this song, but hearing the "Unfa bass" in alternate picking simply makes me smile :) Same holds true for the ending. Classic composition @Rob and solid performance @SahaaThyva
|------------+-------------------------+-------|
| sg75 | Cut'N'Drops | - |
|------------+-------------------------+-------|

There it is , sorry for being late :

A big thanks @y6nH for the coverart (always inspired ! ) and @rghvdberg for providing us such an usefull sampling suite , i can't wait for BoomeR to arrive 😉

Thanks to those one who took place in the challenge, it was way more difficult to achieve than expected on my side ( lack of time (was made in 3 hours) and bad sample pre processing (forgot to normalize my chunks  ) .
