tl;dr
Make a 90's acidified track on a free DAW using either LMMs LamaBASS or the meowing NEKOBI or the CALF MonoSYNTH (if i forgot another monosynth tell me ). Kudos multiplier of 1.33 for the mighty heroes of the 1 synth mania

Hello all,

Since the Libre Music Challenge #07 got more challengers than the 6th i decided to engage more in the Lmc organisation

The Libre Music Challenge is an event that originated in the chat server run by producer/musician/youtuber Unfa.
In this challenge we use only free audio software and some general rules apply (check viewtopic.php?p=120524#p120524)

When talking with some friends in chatroom last saturday night while listening to some techno, we thought there iss a lack of acid basses/leads nowadays.

So! In this month challenge we're gonna correct this lack by making tracks that use those typically mono synth and their legendary filters/distortions

All music must be made using only FLOSS/Libre audio software .
At least 1 lead and the bass line must be made from one FLOSS mono synth plugin (like LamaBass , NEKOBI or CALF Monosynth).
Kudos if your track is made using this plugin only (all FXs allowed!) , 1,33 multiplier for your final score.
I think it is a good way to rediscover the joyness of monosynth or discoverfor ones who did not try this type of sounds.

Well, that's it. Good luck and I look forward to hearing your submissions and reading about how you did it.

Submit before midnight (0:00) 03-27-2021 (27th March GMT)

You can submit tracks by posting links to your work in this thread. Make sure the audio is downloadable and mp3 or ogg (cause the FLAC is too long to upload :( ) as all tracks will be posted on archive.org. (link will follow)

Good luck and if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I was just about to post asking how to get the LamaBass then I realised it's in my LMMS as "LB 302". At least I assume it is that, it has a picture of a Llama on it. So I am saying so noone else gets confused like I just did. All I need is an abandoned warehouse now to get started.

I am willing to accept the one-synth challenge, however I am struggling to get punchy percussion out of Calf Monosynth.
Am I allow to mix in white noise, e.g. with ACE white noise?

Good question, I was already experimenting with white noise too.

Using a monosynth only is for getting the 1.33 multiplier bonus on score:
All music must be made using only FLOSS/Libre audio software .
At least 1 lead and the bass line must be made from one FLOSS mono synth plugin (like LamaBass , NEKOBI or CALF Monosynth).
Kudos if your track is made using this plugin only (all FXs allowed!) , 1,33 multiplier for your final score.
I think it is a good way to rediscover the joyness of monosynth or discoverfor ones who did not try this type of sounds.
I think you can use any other synth or noise generator, in addition to the bass and lead monosynths, if you don't care about the multiplier bonus.

Yeah, sure, but I want the Kudos multiplier :D and only our organizer and referee @Sahaathyva can decide ...

Some plugin suggestions i collected until now about making drums sounds:
  • Calf Transient Designer (attack, snappiness, good for kick, snares, hats)
  • GxTape (add noise)
  • B.Shapr (envelope)

Thx @LAM! Very helpful, I will give GxTape and B.Shapr a try (Calf Transient Designer is already on my list).

:D Not like me to be early to anything, but here I am, in first with my submission for LMC#8. It's time to stop fiddling around with this and work on something else. I've named it "404", and the only sound source is the Open303 synth. If nothing else, this challenge is teaching us how to make drum sounds out of practically anything.

The drum sounds here are the result of roughing up the 303 notes with various pitch shift, chorus and distortion effects, adding noise with GxTape, enhancing the attack with LSP Dynamics, then adding a short reverb, and re-shaping with more dynamics and EQ.

I managed to create some noise with calf monosynth by playing around with the unison settings (both to full power) and waveforms. Here's a preset (put it into your /home/user/.lv2 folder), if you distort and eq the output it's nice for making hats and snares.

@y6nH Nice track!! Where did you get Open303 from? Can't find a Linux native build anywhere and even though I can compile it I can't load it, I get a symbol lookup error.
