Allright, managed to wrap it up, so here goes nothing.

The sound is somewhat minimal, and I wanted to make the track as a soundtrack of sorts

I'm a tad bit late, uploading something right now! So hopefully I can still join in.

This was a great challenge, Kickmess is a simple little thing but quite ingenious to get nice sounds out of it. So I hooked up my sequencer and a MIDI keyboard and did my best to create something nice. Turned out a bit Postal Service meets Album Leaf with a tinge of The Cure (Disintegration style). Everything is Kickmess except for the vocals (so hopefully I'm still entitled for the 1.33 multiplier bonus). Had to quickly sample my own voice otherwise I couldn't work on the song after the kids went to bed so the timing of the vocals is a bit odd, had to cut the samples into pieces quickly.

This experience was particularly nice because it's been a while since I did a song like this with FOSS tools. Things have changed a LOT in the past few years, and definitely for the better. Love the LSP suite and the Dragonfly reverb is a keeper. Sequenced everything live with a hardware sequencer into Ardour, also played the little solo live. Some plugins I used:

• Dragonfly Reverbs
• x42 MIDI plugins
• LSP sampler
• LSP gate
• LSP multiband compressor on the master bus
• Shiroverb for the solo

Some explanation:
The city I live in is generally considered as being ugly and unhealthy to live in because there's a big steel mill in the close vicinity. But I love living here because of this underdog position. And yeah, we really had black snow last week.

Made in Ardour, and all sound were created from the Kickmess plugin.
I struggled to find sounds at first but I'm quite happy with the end result! I got a chance to explore the guitarix suite, and it was very fun.

Overall I'm quite happy with the final track.
I got somewhat stuck on mixing at the end (as I always do), and some last minute struggle reviewing the kickdrum sound which I wasn't happy with and getting rid of some excessive chorus/flanging that I only noticed was bad when I listened on a speaker and not headphones. Mixing is hard!
If I had had the chance I would have spent some extra time on making drum patterns more interesting and varied, and adding more shape to the synth sounds with automation.

Not sure why it shows up as ogv! Anyway I noticed that the "ogv" tracks are still playable from the archive page under the "Download Options -> Ogg Video" menu. Apologies for the inconvenience!

Minimal but it is great in it's own way! Does it clip? I didn't check but it has a weird swell that goes in and out... Might be the bass or the recerb on it... There's nothing wrong with that and it does sound hardstylish! I love the precussions and how automation was used in this tho! Great work!

Love the guitar and arps ^^)/ Tho I will point out that the drums felt a bit unbalanced in terms of frequency content and it kind of felt like that in the beginning, maybe the cymbal felt a bit too loud but when more elements kicked in it was lovely!

Really groovy! I like the rhythms a lot in this one and I love the rumbling sound in the beginning, and I adore how it takes a darker turn later on ^^)/
The only downside is that the mix feels a bit flat, not much stands out but it does blend well!
