Re: Open Source Music FM Synthesize Challenge
Yeah, I was wondering about that myself. The 'name' button seems to do nothing. There's a ticket here, which went nowhere: https://github.com/oxesoft/oxefmsynth/issues/15rghvdberg wrote:how the heck do I rename patches in oxefm

Changing the skin of OxeFM
There are a number of alternative skins for OxeFM
https://github.com/oxesoft/oxefmsynth/tree/master/skins
Download a skin of your choosing , rename the folder to 'skin' and put it where the vst file is.
In my case /usr/lib/vst
I chose the lcd skin btw

Re: Open Source Music FM Synthesizer Challenge Discussion
oh lemme explain the snaredrum patch above
I've used https://www.soundonsound.com/techniques ... snare-drum as a guide.
operator A ; sine wave ≈ 180hz
operator B ; sine wave ≈ 175hz
operator C ; sine wave ≈ 224hz
operator D ; sine wave ≈ 330hz
mix these tones to make up the 'kettle' drum sound of your snare drum
for the snare, let's make some noise
operator E (square) -> F (triangle with max self modulation) -> X (noise) -> Z filter
I've kept the kettle sound rather short and the snare sound a bit longer.
Compress and EQ as you see fit.
I route the snare through the LSP Impulse Reverb Stereo with an IR file from Big Gee's Lexicon 480L IR files (Drum Plate.aiff)

Re: Open Source Music FM Synthesizer Challenge Discussion
BTW, I've updated the descriptions of the different FM synths on the site, and added some more links to AUR packages. I've noticed that the LV2 version of Dexed is in the DISTRHO ports, which I somehow overlooked before.

If you want to learn about FM, I wouldn't start with the Chowning book. Here are several, shorter alternatives:
Basic FM Synthesis on the Yamaha DX7
How To Program The DX7
There are a few more documents in that same folder on my web server (among them also the Chowning book): https://chrisarndt.de/files/yamaha/fm/
And there also tons of tutorial videos on YT. This one is particularly entertaining:
