DOOM: Behind the Music

Post by CrocoDuck »

Hi guys,

I friend of mine shared this interesting video with me:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4FNBMZ ... pp=desktop

It explains the process by which the latest DOOM game soundtrack was created. It is really interisting, at the core of it there are sinewaves and an analog miltibranch chain. I think it is a good source of inspiration to create synth sounds.

This was a really interesting vid, thanks for sharing it! :D
Given the fact that our favorite environment is modular by design, it shouldn't be hard to try mimicking what Mick Gordon did to get those "devilish" sounds with Carla, some Guitarix plugins and maybe ImageMagick for imprinting pictures in the output :)

Yes, I was thinking about doing the same.

No disrespect the guy who gave this talk (no idea who he is) or the poster of this talk. I got something out of it.

However, for a brief that said, no guitars, we hate guitars, even his distortion sine waves sounded guitary. Then he procedes to convince the doom people to put guitars in. Whatever.

What I got from this is how heady the gaming audio-design world is. Almost cult-like language.

I am not sure you got the point. The project managers for the game did not want guitar in, but at the end the composer managed to make a soundtrack with guitars that was so compelling that they allowed it.

I agree with the idea of changing the process/toolset before each project to get different results.
Thanks for the video

I saw this about two times shortly after the conference, This is very interesting. Id like to know of a plugin outside of fl studio where you can add words or pictures and itll transcribe the data to sound.. that to me is very interesting! this also makes me want to get a synth; maybe a microbrute and burry myself underground for a while..

I believe that generating wavetables from text is a big part of the Vital synth (https://vital.audio).
